Bang for buck is affordable, but looks a expensive but something which serves a great purpose but not necessarily requires a huge lay out |

SS sky dweller hands down.
With the dual time function, the annual calendar complication and totally unique command bezel it is the one watch IMHO in the current lineup that should actually be priced higher than it actually is. The rest of the rolex lineup seems to be priced about right for the specific niche that it fills. The sub is pretty much spot on price wise, explorer is as well, same for the GMTII, OP, and DJ etc.. The daytona might be a bit low but not as much as the sky dweller. Thats how i define "best bang for your buck" And no, I'm not on the list for one at the moment, so I'm not just voting for "my watch" |

Using that as the definition of "bang for the buck", I would say a pre-owned DJ. You can purchase one for well under $5K USD and it is the most widely recognized Rolex by the non-WIS public.

The Explorer would be my choice.

As far as the original question, I think in terms of what you will be getting, a SS SkyDweller is a no-brainer. A full in-house annual calendar for 14.4k? That's pretty amazing bang for the buck. If you are looking at specifically sports models, I'd argue that the Explorer 2 is hands down the best, especially given that you can pick them up new for 20-25% off list from an AD. |

The white Milgauss and the Air King, both new 40mm versions are bargains but I would only call them that of you like them. They can be had unworn for around $5000. Buy what you like and can afford, not because it is available at a discount.

I'd say a five digit Explorer II, or a Milgauss. There are enough options in each line to get into a model you like.

I feel like Milgauss at MSRP of $8200 in the US is probably the worst in terms of bang for your buck.... 3 hand movement, no ceramic anywhere, no flip lock on the clasp. Lot of money for green glass and a tub of iron.
Agree that the Explorers and Sub ND are pretty solid bets. |

I personally think that the new Air King is a steal.

SS SkyD and the TBB steel and gold, for getting the most for your money.

I'd say 6 digit Sub. Highly in demand (easy to flip / keeps resale) - and reasonable price of entry. Very classic watch as well fit to any/all scenarios.

Hard to go wrong with a pre-owned, good condition SS Sub 116610. (Personally, I would only get a ceramic sub)
An iconic piece that will almost certainly hold value exceptionally well. |

Yeah, I was just referring to MSRP which seems off for the Milgauss. Seems like around $7500 would be more reasonable.

Any of the 3 current Explorer models, as well as the Explorer MK1 214270.
And Grady is right. For a list of $6250 US, the Air King is a great deal as well. |

The OP 39mm is best value in my books. Very affordable but timeless Rolex.

Brand new = no date sub, exp 1 v2.0 or maybe BLNR
Pre owned = sea dweller 16600 / 16660, DateJust or the 5 digit Submariner date |

I think ere are 3 that are great values in the lineup.
114200/116000/114300 - The OP in 34, 36, or 39mm is classic Rolex and the cheapest entry into the lineup (for men). You get an amazing in-house movement and all the modern updates for a great price. 116200 - Great price for a classic watch with date. A little dressy but always classic and suitable in any situation. 114060 - If you want an iconic Professinal model with a rotating bezel the Sub C is the perfect choice. $1k less than the Sub date or a GMT this is the best deal going for that classic Rolex sports model with bezel. You get the fantastic Glidelock bracelet too! |

It seems like many others agree with you (myself included). I know it's nearly impossible to gauge future value, but I often wonder if certain runs of the 16570 will experienced a similar desirability and price jump in the future as the 5 digit GMT Master II did. |

Daytona Z or C. 16710. I'd argue. AirKing is also pretty good value.
