I have the black, but in TT and it really pops in sunlight.

I'm going to try on this afternoon to see it in the metal. Many thanks.

Photos below.
Both are really nice but the slate dial is special.

More importantly, get what you like!

Congrats

Black dial offers better legibility imo

The slate dial above is too cold for me. I prefer the slate Wimbledon dial.

Between the two above, I would pick black.

I’ve been on the list for a slate dial DJ since September 2021 and was offered the black dial last month. Let’s say I’m still waiting.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts--much appreciated. I left the AD with the DJ 41 this afternoon! Was there any doubt? I couldn't be happier. I would post pics, but I'm not sure how (looks like it needs to be web based). Anyways, cheers!

Slate 100%. So many other black dials out there. This is my favourite configuration, picked mine up last year.

Congratulations! Great choice

And as I stated earlier there was pretty much no doubt.

Haha.. Yea, I chuckled when I saw your first post, knowing you were likely dead on. I'll try Imgur.

Black stick is my vote.
Classy and legible.
Shorts or suit, it works.

Slate or grey is a very trendy shade right now. In the Northeast region of the U.S. (were I live) greys have become the most popular color choice for new cars among many buyers.

I would hold out for your main choice of the black dial. 1) Because that was your first instinct and the most likely way to avoid any buyers remorse 2) Not to let trends effect your decision making, after-all a champagne dial two-tone Datejust was once the most popular model they sold. 3) All Rolex is so hard to get right now. I would hate to have to play the AD game all over again in case you change your mind.
