This may be an obvious question, but what would a jeweler actually look for to determine authenticity?
If it can be seen in the movement, do any members here obtain tools to open backs for themselves to make this determination? |

This thread perturbs me.
Why consider this watch if there is any question? If the price is so good, ask why? This Sub is easy to come by from numerous trusted sellers on this forum. Why risk so much to save so little?

If this thread
Perturbs you??? Perhaps you should be in a different section then? This is exactly what this section is for. Yes the AD's are the safest route. Second to that are the Trusted Sellers here, but the folks that wander in here looking for help don't know that when they first show up. Of course there are the potential scammers looking for an education but they are sniffed out pretty quick and escorted to the door. I for one like trying to hone my 20 years of Rolex ownership and collection experience to help others avoid a bad purchase. Not everyone has the keen eye like Crown or others, but that shouldn't preclude them from asking questions or trying to strike a bargain. We all think we are gonna find that once in a lifetime deal. I see no reason to get perturbed when there's 50 other sections to look thru. Just saying.......

Can you take a better picture of the rehaut engraving? It appears that it might not be aligned with the minute markers.

I stand corrected. I see that my previous comments detract from the intent of this section and apologize. There is much value in understanding what is genuine Rolex and what is not. And I think we can agree that even the experts with many years experience can be fooled, especially when presented with only digital images. I myself have learned much from this section for which I am grateful. What I most value learning here is not so much about how to detect a fake watch but rather how to avoid a fraudulent transaction. I am still quite new to all this and before coming here had no clue about how to be wary and protect myself. For other newbies that come here, I think that is our first duty to them. I'd rather not give the impression that we can authenticate a watch here and say it is safe to buy it. And that is what bothered me. In no way do I want to impede discussion on the issues of a particular watch - as that helps everyone learn the intricacies of authenticity. I sincerely don't want to pick a fight with anyone here and that I do appreciate the spirit of this section. Carry on.

The thing is there's people in this forum (myself NOT included) that can authenticate them and why so many people come here to ask. I'd say the overwhelming majority of questions posted in this forum come from good intentioned people trying to fill the gap for whatever Rolex expertise they (we) lack of. Please allow me to clarify a subtle but very important point. (Important to me). This forum can expose fakes but not authenticate. I think: 1) to authenticate with reasonable assurance requires an in-person physical examination including verification of the movement. 2) and then only by someone who is highly knowledgeable and experienced 3) it is not possible to perform such an in-person examination of a watch on an online forum such as TRF. QED: not possible to authenticate here It is still possible to expose obvious fakes and look at pictures and educate each other and I wholeheartedly endorse that. <begin horse flogging> The highest level of assurance you can hope to get here is this: "From what we can see, nothing looks fake about this watch, but to be sure, take it into a watchmaker to inspect it." That statement does not equate to authentication for me. If people come away from here thinking TRF has authenticated this particular watch - therefore it is safe to buy, then I say "watch out". We owe it to be very clear about this. <End horse flogging>

Do the bezels stick out that much from the case? If so I imagine it is for easy grip&rotation? |

Looks good to me.........
I suspect Nigeria is not as easy to come by as RSC and AD's as the USA for those questioning the choice of purchasing..... Lucky it is no Nigerian cash scam...... congratulations on joining the Rolex family and TRF, the watch looks perfect to me.
