At least as good. I have friends who think the finishing is better on Langes. I personally keep my appreciation to a piece by piece basis; each company has pieces I love and each has pieces I don't love.

I don't think you're off at all. Some PP's are obviously very special, but many Lange references are every bit as spectacular. IMO, Lange offers a much better value than Patek in many regards. On a complication by complication comparison, I believe you can get an equal or better design and finish with Lange at a better price point.

What you don't have with Lange is as much security that they will be around for decades to come to service their more complicated pieces. That is the only thing that worries me slightly. The chances are greater that Patek will stick around longer and will continue to service their old pieces indefinitely. That being said, there are places that can service/repair old complicated pieces if Lange were to disappear, but the waiting lists are extremely long from what I have heard.

I've yet to take the plunge, scared off by the spectre of poor resale value....but one day id like to add a Lange1 moonphase or timezone to the collection...

I seriously don't think that will be an issue. I believe that Lange's commitment to high quality, innovation and excellent customer service will carry forward well into the future.
You mention Patek and their service ability on decades old watches. I agree that they will service any watch they've ever built, which is truly great, but we've also just seen a couple threads indicating excessively long service quotes for routine services. I'm no so sure that Patek is actually the highest standard we should be satisfied with, especially as it relates to a commitment to reasonable turn around times. Just my 2 cents.

After my dad owning many PP's over the years I'd personally rather have a Lange. I like their size or presence much more and their looks to.

I started one of those threads about Patek service times. I never said Patek was the highest standard, so I'm not sure your motive for suggesting I made that kind of statement. There is still a greater probability of Patek sticking around versus Lange, just as there is a greater probability of Rolex sticking around versus Patek.

Here in HK it takes about one year to service a Lange...
