They're both really cool watches and modern day icons for their respective brands.

Neither... one is not a tuner brand, nor upmarket variant of the massmarket brand.

It's more like 50yrs ago when Rolls Royce and Bentley were built at Crewe. Same chassis, inhouse motors, different specs... RR was King the bigger seller and sold for its "prestige" and iconic styling whilst B as the Prince could be more adventurous and have more fun along the way.

I have both watches albeit different colour on the Black Bay. Mine is the Blue bezel. Tudor has an excellent quality for the price point it is at.

Tudor watches have an impeccable pedigree and a great history. In terms of quality and production values they come close to Rolex - they are two branches of the same company and Tudor watches are serviced and maintained by Rolex. If a persons brand loyalty is to Rolex, or they prefer the look of Rolex, then that's fine - but I hate it when some people (not the OP) are snobs about it or pretend Tudor are inferior. This says more about the person making the comment than it does about Tudor.

As for me, I love both Tudor and Rolex. Rolex produces faultless and almost perfect watches but are starting to feel a bit "sterile" in their perfection and beauty. Tudor are definitely the more innovative of the two and their watches are less "clinical" and have a bit more "spirit" and character in my view.

Bang per buck, Tudor is a great watch. Their new models are really cool. Sure, it is the "more affordable mans Rolex", but couldn't the same thing be said for the relationship between Rolex/Patek?

I see it like an accomplishment. When I look at my Rolex I do feel very, very, very satisfied :) Couldn't care less about what others think.

You can only applaud Rolex for their marketing.

Sorry...but I never heard about someone dreaming for years of a Tudor. That's just the way it is.
I fell in love with the BB when they first came out and dreamed about getting one when I couldn't afford it. If all I wanted was "Rolex" on my wrist, I could have stretched an older pre-owned Datejust.

So, that's NOT just the way it is.

Hello Quicksilver
Are you insinuating that I'm a snob ?
I'll just laugh about it. You clearly have no clue who I am.
I said it before.
There's nothing wrong with Tudor
but they are not on the same level as Rolex.
That's just a fact.

Each watch needs to be taken on its own merits. I personally felt the 114060 was uncomfortable to wear. I don't like its maxi design elements. The pictured Tudor is in short supply and there won't be any more of them. I love its design and the way it sits on the wrist. They are currently a fairly hot commodity in that the production run was only about three months long and not a lot made. Watch collecting isn't always about the "best brand."

I really want to like Tudor, but the thick, squarish-ness of their cases drives me nuts and keeps me from buying one (the Black Bay 36 could potentially be the one exception).

Personally, I prefer Rolex over Tudor in most cases (I own 2,) but the Black Bay/Submariner comparison is an exception.

I think some could argue that the Submariner is a superior watch, but I just enjoy the styling of the Black Bay more.

My first Tudor may very well be a Black Bay. Time will tell!

I do understand this post now. Even if a "hollow victory" sounds a bit harsh, I'll get the overall point where the watch specifics and utilities are prior to it's symbolism. Get it. However, symbolism is also an argument that has to be considered because it's a part of the nature of beings.

Sorry Pascal. No - my comment was not directed at you and I don’t regard you as a snob. I think you have an opinion and a preference which is honestly held. My remark was directed at an attitude I see amongst some but not anyone here. Tudor fans can be a bit defensive as we are always in the shadow of Big Brother Rolex.

It's not as if Tudor is the height of modesty. Like a lot of brands, they have celebrity endorsements and large case sizes

Compared to Rolex, they differ by more than price and finish. With Rolex you can't get vintage reissues, a left hand crown, a power reserve, display caseback, and OEM straps in cloth and rubber (I am not counting Oysterflex because Rolex itself refers to it as a bracelet)

The 36mm BB brought me into the fold. The other current offerings are a little too big.

Tudor makes a nice timepiece and they’re able to get away with more experiments with both form and function since they are priced at a level to which younger individuals can begin potentially growing into WISs.

I respect the brand greatly, but would probably end up with a GS or Rolex instead.

I think that if you quickly glance they do seem to resemble but once you start looking at the details they are two completely different watches.
