Sure. But "best selling" also means accounting for how the vast majority of Rolex buyers see the watches, which is by style, not model.

"Back in the day" (when the watches in the OP were manufactured), do you think that the typical buyer of a TT/date watch gave a single thought to whether it was the "Date Just" or "Date" model? No, they were deciding between the 34 and 36mm versions of what was, to them, the exact same watch.

Same thing when looking at an old AK vs. Date in steel: It was the date vs. no-date version of the same watch (in their mind). Or, for that matter, distinguishing between an Explorer and an AK beyond size.

You're talking about styles, not models. Everyone else is talking about models.

Yes, I was interpreting based on how the majority of the population likely would. For our purposes here, you are correct, though.

I don’t know because what sells depends on what Rolex makes and we don’t know what quantities of each model are made. I think the assumptions are based a lot on hype today as well as availability today.

I know “they say” Rolex accounts for 25% of all Swiss watches but that still doesn’t give us much on production numbers.

I would think the Datejust, oyster perpetual, and Air King probably sell more in quantity than the Submariner. Especially over the years. I would also think one of the explorer models would have sold more pieces than the Sub.

Really? I haven't seen much Air-Kings and OP's around. Maybe it's a bit different market here in Europe?

Yes they are - always so tempted to get the datejust TT gold and champagne. Seen many times at the AD. Never pulled the trigger.

Yes they are, although I prefer the bigger version of those watches.

Why would you notice them? About half the men's watches on the planet are steel black dialed with a divers bezel.
They put the g-a r in garbage.

Lol ok. You of course would be in the “vast minority” with this thinking. They are popular for reason. To me a far superior look and one of the only watches you can wear anywhere.

That might be true.

Lady DateJust is pretty much the one and only Rolex model for women. For men there are so much more options.

Recently. I think in the 80’s/90’s it was DD/DJ. I shared a story here last week where my sub sat at an AD unsold for the better part of a year. Now, I would agree.

However given the bezel elements it’s possible the GMT is the best seller and possible more made than the sub and that may have always been the case.
