I would go for the Patek, the AP, I owned the dual time in RG before, it's a pain to wear... :(

I am not a ROO fan but this piece made me stop and think, as you mentioned these are two quite different pieces (a bit like the thread, I have just created on a similar vain). It's a lovely looking piece, especially in the R/G.

I could see myself going with the AP, if it was not up against this particular Patek Calatrava, which to me epitomises what a simple and classic watch should look like.

So my answer is Patek.

For me, it's the AP, but that's down to the calatrava not being my favourite, as for the issue of being timeless, well the AP RO has been going strong for nearly 40 years without any sign of becoming obsolete, infact it's been copied in certain ways by others.

The calatrava though is a bit too much of a dress watch for me, if it had been a nautilus then it would be a tough choice, but between these two i think the AP wins as it's something that can be worn daily and in the flesh the rose gold really is something special, especially with the AP brush finish, it's something you don't really see on other watches and in gold it's fantastic.

The only negative for me is the deployant on the AP, it's not comfy for me, goes the wrong way and just doesn't sit properly on the wrist if your wrist is below a certain size, i really wish they'd used the butterfly deployant they do on the 15300 bracelet.

I agree with many others here in regard to analyzing when you plan to wear the watch and with what. For the most part, the AP is a versatile watch that will look great with jeans as much as a suit. You could even change the strap to a bracelet i think) and go swimming with the watch.

The Patek is more of a classical watch that will look best with a suit. I have a seen people wear a Calatrava with jeans and that is fine but it is not as sporty as the RO.

Does the RO have a manufacture movement or is it a JLC base? I know that the Patek has a manufacture movement. Not sure if that is of concern. You could look at a Nautilus which is Patek's "sportier" line.

I have a Patek 3800 (early Nautilus) and wear it with suits and jeans. Great watch.

In-house 3120 movement, rather nice and works very well.

The PP is more elegant/dressy and the AP is more sporty/contemporary imo

If I could only choose one it would be the AP as it would get more wrist-time

Patek for me. I think that's the 5127 is it?

My plan is to get myself that model when I retire, in 15 maybe 20 years.

I'll make do with the DJ until then.

At the right time - I'd pick a PP, but with more complications.
