Thanks, God! Wow, your folks must have either been very eccentric or wanted to toughen you up with THAT name. It's a great forum, and seems to embrace the odd digression from horological purism, which is nice. I feel very welcome.

LOL - Ed only uses that name when he wants to command great respect and attention. He's pretty down to earth most of the time, however!

And as for "embracing odd digression", we are masters at that, Peter!!!

In addition to being masters of the odd digression, Peter, you will also find that we are the masters of the thread hijack. Hardly a thread gets by without being hijacked by someone. It's a practice we have developed to a high art form.

Back to this nice new watch of mine. I want to take a straw-poll here.

Is there a limit to the contrived and affected wrist/arm positions that can be employed so as to allow strangers and friends the opportuntiy of admiring a new watch? I have done so much left-handed chin stroking over the last week, I am getting a nasty rash.

I have also told an implausible number of stories that have involved the teller pointing his watch (in the third person, mind you) at onlookers as a seamless visual part of an entertaining or enlightening story about aircraft arrivals in foreign countries and so on.

I have also attended an untold number of dermatologists' appointments just so I can move the watch, slowly and deliberately, to show them the obviously benign freckle that lies underneath.

My question to the group is this: where are the limits for maoeuvres that can be deployed in the name of displaying a watch? Using the above as starting points, can we find where that limit lies?

People,as a general rule, are really stupid when it comes to Rolex .Colleagues, unfortuanately, too ... especially those with flashy cars, that depreciates in value daily AND thats mostly owned by the bank...

You will get a positive response from someone who owns a Rolex.

just tell him to read this topic !!

Just to clarify; when I said I hadn't had a soap incident in a shower for 25 years, I was making specific and exclusive reference to watches' waterproofedness. On re-reading the post, I can undersatnd that some people, especially those who went to boarding school, may have been uncomfortable with the level of self-disclosure here.

Chris, I have solved the problem. I intentionally fell from a small overhang yesterday so as to sustain a fracture of my left arm. The landing had to be carefully planned, so as to break only the humerus, otherwise it would have been a plaster. No sense in that for showing off a new watch. I can now spend all day in a collar-and-cuff which presents the new watch unavoidably to everyone I see AND has the added benefit of letting me concoct a glamorous story to go with the fracture.

I rotate the extreme sporting activity in my story to suit my mood. I'm finding the watch is finally getting noticed. I didn't plan for the break to be compound, but then, you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs.

Well, thanks Allan. I know bugger-all about watches, but am learning. While I learn, I'll just indulge one of my other hobbies, which is taking the piss out of myself.
