Idk what I am considered. I only have one rolex at a time and only wear on weekends. But whenever it’s on I can’t stop staring at it and/or taking pictures of it. Lol

Thanks for the post, Lee!

I like the looks, tech/innovation/history of the brand, and it's the "best" that I'm willing to spend for the most part.

I didn't see: "Compensating for personal deficiencies."

I like the aesthetics (of most but not all) and quality. While my world does not revolve around what's on my wrist, I do get a certain pleasure from seeing The Crown.

Always admired the brand and company; always had a thing for watches and mechanical movements ever since I was a kid.
Bought one when I was successful enough to own one, always had a reason /excuse to get another, some are sentimental and my favorite is always my next one.
I couldn’t decide so I’d say an addictaholic.

PS: after almost 25 years of admiration and collecting, not once have I thought about the “investing”. Just my 2 cents.

A happy and grateful one!

Yes, I got it because it’s Rolex. But, that means quality, and they hold their value.

I don’t think any other watch could have stood up to 20 years of daily wear.

Plus, 20 years ago, there really weren’t any other automatic movement alternatives for women. Cartier was quartz (and deemed “junk” by my watch guru back then), as was a Patek Twenty 4. The JLC Reverso on a strap wasn’t an option, given my active lifestyle.

I think they hold their value because of their quality and durability.

NatGeo Explorer II lover. So “other” for my first Rolex.

More than 2 dozen followed as a “serial collector” - never had more than 3 at a time. Trading became fun in the old days so I looked like a short term investor due to desire to make good deals for me.

Now just 1 Rolex vintage DJ, 1 Patek Calatrava and 1 Omega vintage automatic.

Over time my motives have changed and my scope broadened.

Very interesting poll!

I bought it because I like to wear it. I like the way it looks and the way it looks on my wrist. I have wanted one since I was in grade school. The technology, the appearance, the quality/longevity, the heritage, the timelessness of the design, the symbolism, and the prestige all factor into this, some more than others.

In fact, almost everyone on this forum does own Omega and many other brands that lose their value. Most of us just love watches.

I’m an owner because I paid money to own a few Rolex watches.

In terms of Aficionado ... because you want the best. I would say Rolex has only one watch in their line that represents THE best among all brands, and that’s the DSSD D-blue. Hands down THE BEST dive watch in the world. Other than that, other brands are better watches for their function, whether that be GMT, chrono, dress, complication, etc.

One who buys the Rolex watches or any other watch that myself wants to own and wear daily, without the need of any pampering, or timegraphers, phone timing apps or thinking of any perceived investment.

It would make no difference to me when I bought any watch no matter when it was bought.

I gravitate to Rolex because it is the go-to watch for luxury watches for people with absolutely no desire to devote any mental bandwidth to the wider world of luxury mechanicals watches.

Mechanical watches are dreadfully uninteresting.

Why bother with anything else? Rolex’s brand cachet and simple designs are enough.

All the other models of all the other brands? Needless choice headache.

Great poll and I like the multiple choices that can be checked. I am all of them and probably more. I might add one that is I find it fun to own and chase the models and learn about them.

Nostalgerist - Buy the watches because of their history as well as an appreciation for Rolex's contributions to watchmaking over the past century+.

Perhaps they aren't the "finest" nor are they necessarily the most technically advanced, but they perhaps represent more watchmaking innovations than any other brand.

Sort of like the Porsche 911 ad from a number of years ago, picturing the car, with the caption: "Everything we know so far."
