You know Jocke, this annual DateJust cleaning thread inspired me to try it for myself using a Seiko Monster as a guinea pig.

The whole process is very tedious and gives you a deeper appreciation of a mechanical watch and the amount of work that goes into servicing.

I didn’t even break the movement down and the whole ordeal took hours just to put back together.

That being said, it can get frustrating without experience and proper tools so I won’t be doing it again. Instead I’ll just leave it to the pros like you and Bas

That was awesome. What is the story behind this watch? I've never seen a crystal and bezel that beat up before.

Also, Oyster Case for the WIN! All that gunk and grime and the exterior pretty much beat to hell and yet the movement was surprisingly clean when you cracked the back.

Wow, I've never seen photos this good that document what goes on behind the scenes when getting a watch serviced. I hope my watches age as well as yours. There's nothing like a well-worn watch.

I have this for at least 15 years and wear it daily in my Auto Shop. I use to clean it once a year and it still works like a charm.

Pretty sure there's still plenty of grime in between the hollow links after just 10min

V. nice job.

Where do you source the parts from Jocke?
Would you consider a 'fresh' bezel, *'out of keeping with' the
rest of the watch?

*Definition of out of keeping with: not agreeing with or sharing important qualities with (something)

I will keep the bezel until it not keep the standard. It's a WG bezel from the start from the time then the WG was plated in a YG bezel.
It belongs to the watch and it works like it shlould so it stays.

That's a great site, not just for the Rolexes. I love anything that can be serviced and kept going for long periods of time in the hands of skilled people.

That Zeiss Makro Planar is beautiful. I had the same setup before I switched to Leica.

IMHO so is it one of the best lens for watch photographing.

Very nicely done!

I had a DJ with the blue dial and I wish I had kept it. That’s a great looking watch.
