I got to try on a pre ceramic sub at David SW during a conference and was blown away by the build quality. It completely blew away my Tudor BB58.

I now have the 41 Sub date and absolutely love it. My favorite watch by a mile and a bit of a collection killer.

I feel the same. So much longevity in the design. Astonishing actually. Not a fan of the new blockier cases and ceramic bezels.

And the prices aren't too bad compared to a few years ago.

The 16610 and 5 digit Rolexes were peak design in my opinion and mine with cyclops removed is a one of my favorites.

It was a different era though. The sub and SD evolved when customers might dive with a watch but wear that watch the rest of the time as a normal watch. Same with the GMT's and other "tool" watches. Heck, the first SD's were barely thicker than a sub and had the HEV but "only" rated to 2000 feet; a depth that in real life has only been achieved in a pressure chamber. 4000 feet is overkill due to a variety of factors. The reality is that saturation divers never needed a watch. Their time is monitored as carefully as an astronaut and they certainly aren't figuring out days long decompression schedules on their bezel.

Can't argue with the marketing though. Rolex has never been more popular.
