I added my very first Panerai just a month or so ago. I was captivated by the beauty of the sunburst sandwich dial. I've worn it the past week for holidays in Italy.... I LOVE this piece and could care less if folks think 47mm is too big. Panerai are meant to be bold.

I also like the simplicity of the dial and that they are so easy to read.

Yep, and I wear it once every couple weeks, usually on a Saturday where me and my wife are going out and she wants to easily be able to see the time on my wrist. It's a 61D (which glows like nothing I've ever seen, ever), and it's fine, but I'd be ok if someone stopped me on the street and offered me a fair deal in cash for it. I wear Rolex most of the time.

359, 689 and 737. When I'm in Singapore and not travelling on a job, my watches get worn on a weekly rotation. My Sub LVc and PAM 359 are the naughty ones and have a habit of sneaking an extra week or two on the wrist.

I really couldn't care less what anyone thinks about the 'big watch' thing. They're awesome pieces with incredible wrist presence and I can't think of a better place to start than a 233. If you're thinking of returning to the brand, JFDI. You'll wonder why you've been away so long

How many Rolex collectors own a Panerai?

I've been collecting Rolex for 10 years and have been bitten by the Panerai bug. I have 6 Rolex's in my collection, 3 Tudors, an Omega and 2 Pams. At present my two Pams (a 111 and a 372) get about 40% of my wrist time. They just have a unique and appealing aesthetic - rugged and stylish at the same time. But sometimes the size can become tiring. I know then it's time to wear my 36mm Datejust !

Panerai are taking over my collection, down to just two Rolex... may get rid of the BLNR soon, I like big watches... and "I buy what I like"...I only have one person to please, and that's ME...
so what other people think doesn't worry me, let 'em buy whatever they like...good luck to them...
live and let live....

cheers

Gorgeous piece. Correct me if I'm wrong but the size looks similar to the 233 with the dome sapphire. If so, it's like 17mm in height. How does it wear? Any issues slipping it under a shirt cuff?

I'd love a 177 or possibly 111, but every time I try one on, my teenage daughter tells me it looks outrageously big on me (5'5" with 6.5" wrists). I generally listen to her fashion advice, so haven't bit the bullet yet. She also tells me I shouldn't wear cargo pants... damn kids.

Kids tell it like they see it. The only thing that's really holding me back from pulling the trigger is my puny wrist too but I'm 6 feet tall so maybe I might be able to wing it?

A lot depends on your shirt cuff size. Mine will go under some of my double cuffs but not others. Here's my 689, which is taller than my 737, under a shirt cuff.

Really nice trio! I like the 300 on that strap better than on the OEM bracelet.

Thanks - the strap is aftermarket not original Omega. It was only supposed to be a temporary thing in a bid to save the PCL's from getting scratched, but then I thought 'hey, what the hell...' and left it on!
At least now if I do eventually sell it, the bracelet is still mint!

Yes - history is not fashion either. Traditionally Pans have always been 47mm right from way back when they were first issued to the Italian Navy

I think Panerai are one of the few brands that have a right to be large - as you say, it's part of the DNA of the brand. The affectation would be if they made them small. Distinguish this from brands that are just making large watches to be fashionable.

Have 5 Rolex's in our collection and these two Panerai's... a 356 and a 244. The 244 is a 40mm diameter while the 356 is 44mm diameter.

Just traded my Rolex GMT Batman for this 580 ceramic flyback. It's my first Panerai and I'm really enjoying the versatility of the different straps. I have it next to the SD43, which do you prefer?

I started with Rolex, looked at Omega and then went all in with Panerai early in the big watch trend. I became very frustrated with Panerai based on the marketing and the limited availability. Panerai also has a habit of issuing a LE watch and a short time later putting a very similar watch out as regular production. I have steeped back into the Panerai world over the last few years but nothing has stuck. That is until now when I picked up a 422, for the second time, and really like it. Hung onto most of my straps from the past so I am having fun in the "Strap Game". One Panerai for now is enough but if I could find a 690 or 389 for what I consider good money I might own two.
