I don't understand...

what you mean when you say that the PAM will be there when there are considerably fewer PAMs when compared to Rolex Seadwellers????? Please enlighten.

I've made a decision...

Thanks for all the input guys.

I had been undecided but wearing the SD this weekend made my mind up. It pains me to let it go but I just can't get comfortable with it.

I visited a Panerai AD today and (despite the terrible service and sales attitude of their staff) I tried on the 312.....

Very nice. The 50's case wears a lot larger than the 44mm regular Luminor case.

The SD is now listed for sale (or possible trade)

Proces on SD's have really bottomed and the 312 at AUD $8,300 is pretty steep but it's probably worth the extra few $.

I'll keep you posted....

Glad you decided on the 312... once you put one on, it just fits perfectly for most people. :)

Okay.....so I went to the AD with the intention of purchasing a 312.

The staff are incredible. Rude and had no idea about selling.

I queried whether their price was negotiable and they simply looked at me and said no. Take it or leave it. Quite literally.

I'd at least expected to be told 'we'd love to but....' and waxed lyrical about the finer qualities of the watch. The salesperson was actually reading the watch features out of the catalogue.

Annoyed, I popped into another AD and looked at a 112.

The staff couldn't be more helpful and really tried to sell me the watch but without undue pressure. Even offered a decent price (for a dealer) on my SD as a trade in.

Now I really do prefer the brushed finish of the 312 but the extra $2500 is quite steep. Had the staff been helpful in the first store I'd now be worrying about telling my wife I'd just bought a 312. Now I'm tempted to get a 112 because of the far superior service.

If I go for the 312...am I making a mistake? It would burn to give my hard-earned to the slackers in the other store....

The 112 is a fantastic piece from the historic collection. The 312 represents Panerai's new direction. You can't go wrong with either. Is it worth the extra money to go to the 312? Only you can decide.

...but I can't decide.

That's the problem.

If the 112 was brushed rather than polished I'd go for it in an instant. Having the 112 brushed would probably kill the resale dead due to the number of really good fakes and 'homages' out there.

Can you find another AD? Watches are commodity items, I'd never buy any such item from a dealer that was rude or uninformed. There are plenty of Panerai dealers on other watch forums selling new 312s at nice prices. Buy the one you want, not the one that is easiest to get from a better AD.

I bought my 312 a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier with it. Only you can decide which one you want, but I can tell you that the 312 is "worth the effort". Always get the one you really want and you won't go wrong.

Hey!

When I was in Maui, there was a dealer (reputable) with the 312 in stock. This was approximately 3 days ago. If you want, I can give you the name and number of the salesman and he can ship it out to you.

I have a 312(from oscar(bodybump_amazing to deal with), deep sea, 6263 and a submariner LV. I was originally going to trade the LV but i received the 312 and to be honest you have to have both. I would be lost without a rolex as a backup slash everyday wear. You need atleast 2 watches and the sub and 312 compliment each other so well its awesome. Keep the SD and save to get a pam imo.

Not an option.

No point keeping the SD if I never wear it, as much as I like to look at it.

I've already got a datejust to wear with a suit and an Oris diver as a beater so I can't really justify keeping the SD.

Theother factor in the 112 vs 312 debate is the size of the 312. The 112 would (I feel) go better with a shirt and tie than the 312......

This is going to run and run........until I cave in and buy one.

The 112 would be slightly easier to manage under a dress shirt. This is true. Although the 112 is polished all the way around it is easy to remove the small hairline marks it will receive from daily use. Plus, scratches add character.

Like I said, Baron and Leeds has a 312... Ship internationally and nontax. Plus they double your warranty.

Three one two...

If you like the brushed look of the 312 and the price of a 112, how bout a Ti 176? Shouldn't be too much more than the 112.

I didn't actually state exactly how much I paid. I paid less than list...but not much.

Are our bank accounts somehow linked? I'll get on to my employer and get that fixed.

Are you aware of Aussie dealers selling for more than 10% under list?

I'm so lucky I'ver got people like you to put me straight. Thanks.

Whilst we're at it did I overpay for my other watches? What about my house?

Any investment tips? I've got some great Spanish RMBS you may be interested in.
