What a Awesome timepiece. It looks gorgeous on your wrist I can't blame you for looking at it all the time who wouldn't. Good luck with it and wear it in good health.

Thank you all for the kind comments and the warm welcome - makes a chap feel wanted! :-)

I was umm-ing and ahh-ing for a while over what to go for, kept swinging between 2016 Explorer I, current-model Explorer II and the DJ-II. In the end I decided the lack of date on the Explorer would annoy me, the Explorer II is just that bit too sporty for what I was looking for, which left the DJ-II. I have 7 3/4" wrists so the 41mm size is about perfect.

Re the bezel, I'm not personally a huge fan of the fluted bezel, although I fully accept many (most?) regard it as one of the defining features of a Datejust. Each to their own - happily they make it with both styles!

There are comments floating around, and seem to have been since the DJ-II launch, about the bezel being a bit too large. With the darker dials I'm inclined to agree, which is probably why the white one 'spoke to me' when trying them out. The white dial pops out more than the darker shades, and in the process takes the eye off the shiny bezel. Originally I was intending to go for silver, as I knew I definitely wanted stick/baton rather than Arabic or Romans, but I guess that's the value of trying them all on - I'm over the moon with it!

That was exactly my first model too! Still one of my favorites. So clean and legible.

so....
1) don't cry when you scratch it, those clasps are a bugger for desk diving!
2) don't worry about wearing it in the rain, bath, shower or swimming..its what it does!
3) don't keep trying to find excuses to tell them time, its normally only a minute or so after the last time you looked!
4) Do start to save up for your next watch...its a habit I'm afraid!

oh yeah and enjoy it, sounds like you are old enough now ;o)

Haha, some good points there! My last decent watch, a Breiling Superocean, also had PCLs in the bracelet. I say 'had' because after 12 years of daily use the polished links are now indistinguishable from the brushed ones. As for getting it wet, it's been in the shower twice already and I took my little daughter to the swimming pool with it yesterday, so I have no hang-ups on that front!

I have 6 watches in the box, an old Seiko from my 18th birthday, the Breitling which really needs a service, and a handful of cheaper ones too. There are 4 more slots in the box - but sadly I have somewhat depleted funds now!
