OP, you famously have the 116508 champagne dial but what else is in your collection?

Terrible terrible mistake my friend this is the type of watch you don’t even think of say no …. I feel bad for you but you will be sorry no doubt…… easy your SP say that to give the black to one of his clients and give you some hope to get the white …… you state that youre not a high roller so think about that for a second

You made the right call if that’s not what you want. I do feel a collection can have both.

I don’t think you made a mistake. You looked at it in person, and it didn’t resonate with you the way the white one did. The black one IS the dream watch for someone, and you’ve made that person happy, too.
Here’s hoping you get the white one soon! |

I was always told once the warranty runs out after 5 years, you can send your watch to Rolex service and they will let you change the dial as long as it’s not a higher value watch (for ex. cannot change from stick dial to diamond dial). So couldn’t you have just stuck with the black dial and if you really wanted the white, that option is still available down the road?

Glad you turned it down and waited it out for the configuration you really wanted. That takes immense self-control. Bravo.

I support your decision, only you can make the judgement call if your AD is shooting you straight. I’ve faced a similar scenario and passed…when I got what I wanted it was more gratifying and built a stronger relationship with my AD.

This is a tough one. I don’t think I would’ve passed. Regardless of what the market is doing, this is a watch you work up to. There’s enough rich people in the world that a stainless Daytona will most likely never be on display ready to be sold to whoever walks in first.
Even when I purchased my 116520 black dial in 2015, I had to get on a list. Things were much different back then. Hulks were readily available for anyone to purchase. |

Op. There is nothing for you to worry about. Your ad knows who you are and they already offered your the black next white one will be yours.

Tough call, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush…
I’ve read a handful of posts relating to turning down one model for another variant, and that “call” never came. I hope you get the luxury watch you desire, but premiums are pretty much the same so my simple mind would’ve taken it and moved on. |

Wish I could agree that you did the right thing. But I just don’t see how.
I guess the silver lining here is that the person who’s going to now get the piece is one lucky dude/gal. So you’re about to make somebody super happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think you made the right decision. Sounds like you have a good relationship with your AD and trust what the SA is telling you. If you get the watch you want in the next 6 months, your decision will pay off and your AD relationship will continue to get stronger.
It would be different if you turned it down without that sales associate telling you what they did. They are basically telling you the white one will come in due time and if you pass on the black they will make it happen. |

The same thing happened to me, and about a month later, I got the white one.

I think I would have done the same, but it is a tough decision to make! I prefer the white one over the black but only marginally. The black is a great looking watch too. However, fingers crossed you will get yours soon. Keep us posted

I think alot depends on your SA and the power he has in allocation, the white is more popular than the black so if you are sure when the white comes in your SA will have the power to allocate to you then you've made the right call, but if he can be trumped by the manager or someone more senior then you may not have, I presume you know the hierarchy there and are confident with your SA.

I wouldn't buy something or pass on something because of a promise any more than I would buy something I didn't want. I seems like you did what was right for you, which is to say you did the right thing.

I would have done the same. Your AD is pretty clear you are high on the list for a white one and after this probably even higher

Nothing wrong with passing on a watch you don’t want.
I’d take my name off the list for it though |

This is a great post and I admire your integrity OP. Most would have snatched it to sell on. I think you did the right thing and I would have done the same thing in your position. Go for what you want. Someone who want the black dial can enjoy that watch. I think being honest with your AD is the way to go and I do not see it hurting your chances as your AD knows that the panda is the one you want. I think that will go further than simply buying the watch because you could.
I look forward to your 'PANDA INCOMING' post together with pics in due course. Best of luck! |
