5 digit all day for me. Had a GMT-C and while I agree with the points on better bracelet and materials, it can’t match the old school cool look.

No wrong choices here though. Just personal preference.

Josh you hit it right up my alley with this question.

You said your first professional Rolex was your 16610. That is a sports line and be proud of that! They rule!

Mine too. I turned 30 in 2000 and I went in 6 months I guess prior to my 30th expecting to walk out with it. Well Rolex USA had a wait list at the time for the 16610. I got it right before my actual birthdate so I was very happy. Over the years I have owned around 8 different subs. 5513,1680, 16613LB and LN, 16610LV, 16610, 116610LN 116610LV. 2 GMT's, 16700 and a 116710LN.

People who know me know I love my 16610LV. My AD tried for years to get me to get a LV. I fought him saying the green was too ugly. Then a guy at work got one and I kind of liked it.

Years later I got one. It is amazing. I was also very much a 5 dig. rolex sub guy. I didn't like the ceramics. The way the case transitions to the band is terrible. Makes the band look small. While the 16610 was perfect.

But I ended up doing it anyway. I got the 116610LN. I swore never too own a LV ceramic. EVER.

Then I end up the deal of a lifetime. I know hulks are hard to get. I ended up getting one. I made a promise with my wife. I would wear it a week straight. I never wear the same Sub for a week straight. But I did. Let me tell you. That dial is weird.

75-80% of the time it looks black. Then some times it looks real dark green. Only when light hits it directly is when it is really GREEN. It is the oddest thing. And I kind of like it.

I have sold all my subs but my 16610LN, 16610LV, 16613LN, 116610LV, 116610LN, and I have my GMT 116710LN.

My go to watches are hands down the 16610LV and the 116610LN and 116610LV in that order.

But I understand your point in the topic question. Green is an odd but royal color. It also looks amazing in the solid gold GMTII. The sunburst effect that Rolex makes is just amazing. I will post some pics if I can, to show you what I mean by the way it looks black most of the time.

Yea its a sickness! The 16610 was the first one I owned. I traded it in 2003 for the 16613LN. I had regretted trading it in for years. My AD got a one owner trade in with box and paper and they serviced it and gave me a full warranty for another 2000 16610LN. So I jumped on it. I have NEVER even wore it. That an my 16613 since coming back from service.

I wear my 16610LV or my 116610LN every day. I throw in the 116610LV once or twice a week. The 116710LN hardly gets any love. Im going on a cruise in two weeks and I think I am going to just take the Hulk and the 116710LN so it gets uses.

I really got the bug for Rolex from my dad. He had a 1967 5513 he got new. He lived on the west coast my whole life after he had left us here in NY. But every time I saw him I loved the watch.

I have owned the 5513. Two times actually. I need a date. I tried a 1680. Amazing watch but that top hat crystal, Im my old job, I kept chipping or cracking it.

I owned a beauty of a early 16800. That paid for my 116710LN.

One thing I really regret selling. My 16700. I could make it a coke, Pepsi, black, with just changing an insert. Try doing that now a days. LOL.

I am happy right now with my collection. I have a deposit on the 126600. So we will see. I refused to pay the extra money to get it faster. Its been since September.

The sports line of Rolex is hands down the best part of Rolex in my opinion. While some like the look of gold and diamonds. I prefer a nice stainless sub.

My buddy Will is a massive Daytona fan. His collection is sick. For him money isn't an object. He has 18K white gold Daytonas and platinum Daytonas he has the new ceramic one in stainless. But he hates when he has on a white gold one and I say oh you went with stainless today? LOL. See the veins in his forehead go crazy.

He too though, has a 16610. Sorry lots of blah, blah,,,,,

I heard rumors of the Hulk being discontinued until my AD told me otherwise, looks like the Hulk is here to stay, at least for a while longer. I am not a big fan personalty , blue is more my color - BLNR.

I seem to be going from the 4-digit to the 6-digit watches. The only real problem is that you have to be much more careful with the older watches. Guess I'm a sucker for maxi and disco dials.

I just posted on another thread that I own a 5 and a 6-digit, and I love them both for their differing qualities.

To the average person, they probably look the same, but to an owner, you can feel and spot the differences right away - and I love that.

Totally agree. My wife did make the comment when I showed her my new coke, “don’t you already have that same watch?”

Thanks brother.

I hear that our wives feel that they all look alike.

When I got my 116710LN she said it looks just like your submariner! When we went to her loving Louis Vuitton store. She asked me about a bag and I got too get her back! Really? They all LOOK IDENTICAL. Ok when they are different in color or style but she loves the tan and brown one and everything looks the same! LMAO. She agreed and when we came back from our summer cruise around Europe, (she had seen me stop everywhere in Europe looking for the new 126600), when I put a deposit down for the 126600 she just looked and laughed. LOL.

I can’t work out how many ‘winter coats’ my wife has that are the same! I sometimes wonder quite how many SS Rolexes I would have hoovered up if I’d stayed single....

Wondering photos!

I like the kermit much more as it is slimmer in the watch size and with black dial.

Interesting story :).

I started on Rolex with a 116610LN that I used as a daily for 2 years.

Then I started to be obsessed with the Tudor Big Block. I traded my subc (+ cash for me) for a 79180 with original big Chrono box but no papers 1 year ago. Since then it took 20% value increase in comparison to the price I got it.

After the first month it was clear that I needed again a modern Rolex because I already scratched twice the plexi.

So last December I did put my name down on the list for 116610LV at my local AD. Collected it 2 weeks ago and I’m absolutely in love with it.

Like you said, the sunburst dial is crazy.

Cheers

Alex

Is this too hulkish? I have too say I was a hater till I got one. The dial is amazing in every lighting situation. Looks black most of the time till direct light hits then the intense green starbursts effect is amazing. The bezel though. I wish it were more like my 16610LV color. Amazing never the less.
