How much protection do you want? (or do you need for insurance purposes/discounts?) If you want a brand new, well-made safe, the Brown HD is worth consideration IMO. It is a TL-15 in its base armor with a poured composite design. Price isn't terrible (I think you are at around $2,900 for a smaller [a couple cubic foot] model), weight isn't too bad, and it covers you for fire. For the collection shown in the above picture + likely other valuables in the home, it's a pretty reasonable place to be when mounted properly and paired with an alarm. AmSec AMVAULTs in their base TL-15 armor can also be had for a pretty reasonable price, and these have the venerable UL 350/2hr/1850F rating. Both of these safes favor performance and have very basic cosmetics (compared to say Graffunder, which also has performance, but also gorgeous cosmetics, and a correspondingly high price).

If you aren't as concerned about weight and go a bit higher in price, then we start venturing into safes with six-sided protection against cutting tools and torches.

If it works for him that is awesome. As a dude who used to sell safes, I was just curious.

Pelican case w watch cut outs in the foam.

There are a lot of downsides and not many upsides to safe deposit boxes (it’s a 5 min job to drill out your lock and the bank has your property).

Not sure what State you live in but in PA there are some onerous rules about the contents of bank safe deposit boxes upon the death of the owner. Basically they must be inventoried and the contents are subject to probate.

Oh and there’s this:

When a retail jeweler closes, they have really great safes for sale.
I bought a used Empire Safe, Series 60 UL TL-30 5 foot safe for $900. New around $9000.
Cost $500 to hire a trucking company to move into my garage.

Not sure if the carbon fiber looking material is leather, it it’s held up nice the past three years since this post.

I now have 3 more of these watch boxes and use the 6-watch boxes because of how well they fit the bank box for switching out pieces.

Also, Underwood now makes a green leather WatchBox that looks like the Rolex presentation box. I don’t have the green, but I’ve seen one in person and they are quite nice.

It’s lovely but it doesn’t hold enough watches.
