Nice find and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the rest of the story once your aunt decides what to do,..

Great story and hopefully true.

If not, may an aids struck lama drag his testicles across your granola plate.

Great find. Wow.
Both look untouched. The big red still has the early mk1 pushers, and the gmt with it's early, and rare mk1 bezel. Very nice pieces.

Hopefully they are able to stay in the family.

Healthy skepticism about stories like the OP's is normal. In my involvement with hobby/collecting internet forums over the past 10+ years, alleged legendary "finds" on par with this one have been reportedly found in essentially similar ways.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if all of the elements as reported are true. I've seen too many similar troll threads over the years to take this one at face value.

While I would never disagree with Nick....aka Greekbum...If it was me:

I would send both watches to Ridely for a movement services ONLY and find a bracelet for the GMT...

Having them running with a service and top notch documentation of that service, will only help you in selling them. Bob Ridley is considered one of the very best...

An buyer is going to say "jeesh, I would pay more if they had any service history and kept proper time. Eliminate that crock of &^%$# with Bob's services....

I must admit... Beautiful watches and they play right into one of everyone's fantasies about finding them. Given the OP's sudden appearance on the forum with these two in hand and that story, my healthy skepticism is working overtime. I guess one can always hope.

Too bad they aren't "full sets"....

kodiak, thank for posting the pics. we see a lot of Fish Tales on here which is why people have doubted your story. you dont need to justify or explain any of the facts. its fun to read and see pic like this. i have a theory that as a collector, if you ask around an dig a little, you will eventually find a score. i already have found a few.

Tough story to swallow.
However, a month ago I opened a safe with a Client and found $250k and a Patek that they "didn't know existed" /shrug

It's my understanding that with someone's death, the probate referee, executor of the will or trustee has a fiduciary duty to inventory all assets of value belonging to the deceased. Knowing of a safe and not having a locksmith open it to inspect its contents would be a breach of said fiduciary responsibility particularly in light of the uncles penchant for collecting.

In my experience, when everything is simply transfered to a spouse, this rarely happens.

Heck, I dated a girl 25 years ago and years after her grandfather died they were in his basement cleaning it out and they found $300,000 in an old trunk.

He had owned a pharmecy for year

It happens.

Great story, great find

I am new here, so I am not sure how often someone comes here and makes stories like these up, but I can't see how you would benefit by making something like this up. Great story, it made me very excited for you and your family, congrats!!

I did get in contact with Bob Ridley's shop this afternoon. It's up to my Aunt now to decide what to do with the watches. I'll keep you guys posted when I hear where they end up. I'm hoping they stay in the family......
