This. Can't really fault it as a beater watch, just wish it wasn't so obviously "Rolex" as I feel self-conscious wearing it...

Most people don’t know what it is. Another group will presume it’s fake. The only people who concern me are thieves.

In my mind, a stainless diver with date and a timing bezel is just about perfect for this role.

G-Shocks and the like are great but can be chunky and not the nicest looking accessory.

A diver is a good medium - it's got the looks but also the durability, water resist, and utility.

It’s more the way I feel in it. I’m not really a Rolex person, as the image associations are not ones I identify with.

Problem is they’re damn good watches, and it’s hard to find rough-and-ready, waterproof watches (I have three young kids and am very active) under 40mm nowadays.

OP here. In essence I was looking for a watch I'd be OK adding dings, scrapes, and dirt. Perhaps destruction. I'd take it on the trails with me when I ride, do yard work, maybe some wrenching.

I tip my hat to the brave folks "beating" Rolexes (and other fine watches), and you've inspired me to volunteer one of my old faves. I haven't worn this in years. So, here is my newly appointed beater watch. Was a nice little after-lunch project for me:

The candidate, and some strap options

I haven't worn this in so long. It already looks like a beater!

And I chose gray

Wrist shots!

My beaters are a seiko 5 or snk whatever they’re called, a tag form 1, Nomos 701 a Tudor Bb36 Nato. Kinda depends on how much of a better I need or the environment. I often don’t wear my goodies in certain places out of caution

That's a great watch! I've always wanted it with the sterile dial. Wonder how it'll be on my 7" wrist.

Often times "beater" has a cheap connotation, but that Marathon is anything but, and can withstand true daily beater activities with ease, in style and function.

Yeah, they are solid watches. Mine was issued, but I haven’t used it a ton. Should really use it more...

I’ve literally seen a few that have been blown up and kept on ticking just fine.

I’ve got a 7” wrist, watch should look similar (?).

That's a cool story, having an issued watch and all. Did it come with that strap? I know the vulcanized rubber straps are top notch.

It came on the rubber straps, which are excellent. I put it on a ZULU strap, purely out of personal preference.
