I’ve owned a YG 36mm with the champagne dial, IMHO, you can’t go wrong with that combination. I now own a DD RG and I absolutely love it. I’m most likely to add to my small collection a DD YG 40mm champagne dial.

I would go for the classic champagne you just can't go wrong.

Here is my unpolished 18238 from 1991 - I've been offered good money for it but I don't think I would ever sell just because its such a classic. The 36mm is just perfect for my small wrist and the presidential bracelet is pretty much the most comfortable bracelet and is jewelry in itself.

I started to notice it, even more now that I am in a position allowing its acquisition, just last night watching Seve Ballesteros documentary, there it was I am seeing it as my "Rolex Grail", first full PM piece, before that, it was the current YG OF Paul Newman dial Daytona, too big.

Considering that I am still under 30, (but with a classic style, all said) which dial configuration would you vote for? (I have more or less light skin)

For me, Yellow Gold is a must for this watch, I would source this from my AD (would like it new, so other references are discarded), any experience on how long are DD36 taking now?


- Green With Diamonds, I initially discarded this one due to the diamonds, but after seeing some videos and live pictures, it is Gorgeous! Diamonds don't stand out too much, and its already a full gold watch I guess the green won't make it that much bling
If someone who has it could chime in, that would be awesome.

- Champagne: The classic timeless Day-Date dial, I am a bit worried that it is "too much yellow".

- White: I feel that it lacks something, and considering I already have a white dialed SS DJ, this looks like the most versatile but the one that less attracts me from the three.


Any opinion or feedback is greatly appreciated!

I had a champagne dial. I bought it because it’s the most original look on a dd, after a couple of years it started being a bit overwhelming. It didn’t blend well with most outfits and places I’d wear it to. I’d get white and not buy champagne again. But again I was only 23 and that’s what I felt. Depends on your age and lifestyle ….. take a good decision.

I’m 29 now and strongly suggest white dial for more casual and diverse use. You will enjoy it in way more places and settings without being flashy. Sunburst finish on champagne is too loud in my opinion.

Champagne is too monochromatic for me.

I would go white romans with the yellow gold. The green is nice, but I'd almost rather have black if the green is that dark.

I almost the rose gold to the yellow gold.

Now, if you can get on board with white gold.....do the blue dial.

Based on your choices I’d pick green. The champagne dial is monotone and the white leaves me cold.

At the younger age, either go with the white dial or black dial (if available). Champagne dial is more associated with higher age group, I am 53 now and that would be my choice (I seem to be liking gold color more these days, go figure! )

The green looks nice, but that would be my choice if I had a few DD and other PM watches. As the one and only, not go with the green.

Green is the most gorgeous and sought after, so you might have to wait for awhile.

Personally I would go with champagne, because its so iconic.

That said, if you like the bling and want a splash of color, you can try to find a nice 18038 or 18238 with the factory diamond vignette dial, in blue, brown or red. Although prime examples are pushing $25k today, so the value proposition is not as good as it once was.

I’m with you on digging the smaller sizes. I picked up both 36mm Explorers and was hoping Rolex would release a yellow gold blue dial Day Date in 36mm.

Sadly they did not, but the new white face with sticks would be my choice. Good luck on your decision. No wrong answer here.

I've owned two DDs, one white with Romans and one Champagne with sticks; neither has stuck. I think that I'd go with the green with diamonds as it's unique enough to stand out from the herd. I also believe I'd prefer the 40 mm version but so far, I've not really sampled one.
