has anyone thought that they might be doing this for the excitement of the changes, get a lot of controversy, and then in some years return the classic models to the selection? seems that this could fit into their plans to keep the prices up, and avoid the slide in prices for used as there are SO many. what do we think?

Thanks for all the input guys. I will really miss the old Sub if they discontinue it. Martin, your wrist shot look amazing!

Thanks Andrew, great post. Makes a lot of sense that sooner or later but in the not too distant future the 14060M will be no more as we know it today.

I like the photoshop of your new version, I just don't know how much I like the supercase though.

At least one good thing out of all this, is that there are a lot of 14060M's around, so they should be obtainable at least on the used market for quite some time to come.

Thanks so much Steve!

The 14060M may be discontinued soon, but it will be the last iteration of the classic Submariner in its purist form. Such a beautiful watch!

Too much speculation for me. We don't know what they will do and they are not telling until it happens.

I like the way you think.

I've been wearing my 14060M non stop for the last two weeks. I've been toying with the idea of selling my other watches and just keeping this one. It's been my "special" watch since I've owed it. I initially wore it sparingly, but now that I've got a few swirlies on the bracelet I am more comfortable with just wearing it.
It's hard to fathom that they would discontinue this model.

Presario,
Your rendering of the Sub, is exactly how I hope it will look! I would look into getting one now - mainly because the size is great at 40mm, and it has no date - the only thing I don't like about the current one is the smaller markers on the dial. Having said that, my AD had one last week, but I don't know if it's still there. I may "pop in" tomorrow, and have a look. Would hate to miss out on the only diver of it's kind (at least that I know of) that does not have a date.
Cheers

current model 14060m

Hi guys, i am fairly new to this site and am about to buy a no date sub, i understand from the speculation that most people expect this model to be discontinued or updated.

I like the current/latest model 14060m and want to know how i can tell i have bought the latest model and not some older model that has been stored at Rolex for ages, as my AD doesnt currently have one in stock?

what are the references etc to look for?

Thanks

I've been talking with some of my knowledgeable Rolex friends and we got onto the topic of the current Submariner (14060M) and its fate. We both agreed that the 14060M would be discontinued at some point because it wouldn't make financial sense for Rolex to continue producing the old Sub case, Oyster bracelets and clasps just to keep the no date Sub in the line up. (I know, I know, much to the chagrin of Submariner loyalists).

So as the conversation progressed, we both agreed that at some point, the 14060M would get the new glidelock clasp, solid link bracelet, ceramic bezel, maxi-dial, and supercase treatment. Which I think are all great upgrades, but I find myself longing to add a classic Sub to my stable as I already have a GMT2C.

I know that the legendary 16610 will finally be discontinued at Besel 2010, but I think the 14060M will survive for one more year. It would be cool if in 2010, the Sub no date was released with the maxi-dial. It would be an awesome way to bow out -- by looking a lot like the 5513 with the ample application of lume. With the Rolex engraving on the rehaut and the COSC certification, it would be one heck of an issue. Probably be a really short run so pretty rare in later years.

Welp, that's the dream anyway. But regardless, I'll be picking up a classic 14060M soon. So sad it's gonna be gone one day.

Here's a rendering of what I think the 14060M could look like with the maxi-dial.
I think that's the best looking Rolex I've seen. Just add AR coating lose the lug holes and add the GMT 2c bracelet minus the polished center links and leave the price where it is.
I would definitely buy one.
But I think we all know. Its just not going to happen.

I bought mine with no COSC from a friend, two years ago, he did not like it at all, so, sent it to me from Japan. I wear it on a brown croco, a beauty!

I think the 14060M will stil available for a lot of time yet. Rolex have produced tonns of them, and it's not a watch everyone like. I will not say as Explo II Polar, but if the people make choice between date and 14060M, 90% it's the Sub Date who win! So, on the second hand marked it will probabli cost not much more than now, may be litle bit +. When you see the SD prices, they did not rise a lot while the new DSSD came to the market.

So, guys, you will have at least few years time to choice and buy one pre-owned for a correct price. And the COSC will be probably the shortest production, it will be (I think) the collector one in the future.

I always thought this watch was unpopular, because it doesn't have a date function!

WIS's have shunned them for years!

It's time this model rises to something special.

When I ask specialist about the resale value, they say it's "hard to sell" ----and----

"NO ONE WANTS ONE"!!!
