I believe it's a new service crystal which Eric put on it for me before I got hold of it. It's the one with a smaller bevel at the top edge; some have a deeper, more tapered bevel. I like both, to be honest.

I have the original one, too, but the edges are a bit soft now.

here is my red 1680 mk6 which I believe it contains it's original crystal in stunning condition. Has Straight sides with only a very thin slight bevel on the top edge.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the modern rolex service 127 "top hat" crystals have a bevel right in the middle on the side of the crystal? That is the only difference I have knowledge of in regards to a service 127 VS an original 127.

Being my watch is all original including the crown is not updated to triplock with the tube gasket, I am pretty confident my 1680 has never seen many services and has never been in the hands of RSC. Which is why I would think my crystal could also very well be original to the watch?

Maybe someone can clarify the info above in regards to original VS service 127 crystal?

I know for a fact that my crystal is a new service crystal, and you're right, the bevel starts about half-way up the edge. Definitely different from yours, which would lead me to believe yours is original. But I'm no expert. Awesome pics!

Dave, Thanks for the info.. I have done much searching on VRF and here and not found much info, it seems no one is 100% sure of past service crystal styles.. I have also owned many 1680's with the service crystal that has the bevel in the middle of the side. From what I heard, during different time's going back years ago 20+, rolex had different service crystals that did not have the bevel in the half way point on the side but had a larger chamfered edge towards the top.. There seems to be no definitive answer on that tho..

Judging from what I have seen, I would assume my crystal is original which seems pretty cool because my crystal is literally NOS condition, But then again, the rest of the watch is in pretty amazing original condition as well.

My snowflake has the small bevel. My Red has the other style. I prefer the small bevel one because the Plexi feels Different. Hard to explain but the older style Plexi has more of a rubber feel while the service 127 just feels like a hard piece of plastic. The small bevel is less likely to get knicks as well.
