Why? Because he joined nearly 3 years ago but this is (according to his post count) his first ever post, it’s cryptic (at best) in details, and he hasn’t posted again as of this moment (more than 8 hours after the initial post) to thank people for their responses or to answer any of the questions (e.g. what the AD offered to do about it, why the AD waited so long, etc.), and TRF shows his last activity was less than 2 hours ago? Agreed. |

Yes, weird thread. My AD shipped my BLRO to Dallas RSC for warranty work and my last two new watches were shipped to me. Both via Fedex and I’m sure privately insured to their value. No problems but I’m sure if there was they would have given me a new watch.
I’m sure the shipper haters will chime in, but from first hand experience “high value” insured packages are given extra scrutiny by both Fedex and UPS. The “weird” part of the original post is the six weeks part. The AD would have known almost immediately the package was missing and the shipper or insurer would have already settled with them. |

I agree. Why do people feel the need to "lawyer up" first thing. We're talking about a AD, not some shady back alley watch dealer. There is no reason to assume they wont replace your watch. ADs don't becomes AD by ripping people off. Things get lost/stolen during transport all the time and ADs def have a SOP on how to remedy the situation.

I’m quite curious as I was gonna post this exact topic, have a small issue with my AP that they recommended to take into the service people

Co-sign... AD shipping UPS... Really? Why? Unless Rolex is now accepting UPS.
Also, the fact AD did not contact you about this for the past 6 weeks... Very unprofessional of a jeweler / AD, not to inform a paying customer. Lastly, did not offer you a solution to remedy the fact your watch was lost regardless of UPS hands... They should have said something or offered some type of solution in the mean time. |

Often times items get "lost" (stolen) by UPS when the shipping labels give an indication of the contents (i.e. Apple, Rolex, etc.). I had an Apple iPad "lost" (stolen) by UPS and Apple replaced it.

Whatever shipping method they claimed to have used, the tracking would be interesting to see. Your first step may be to file a stolen watch report to Police - let the AD know that’s the first step Rolex always requires before filing a stolen watch report with RUSA. I could see a need for the AD to produce the tracking info to the Police. Not just your watch but all outgoing shipments that day. Hope that you get your watch, or adequate reimbursement in kind or in cash. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

After some additional discussion, AD has promised a new replacement
The AD is part of a chain and while the immediate store manager wasn't as helpful as I would have expected, I was able to get in touch with a regional VP who treated this incident with the urgency and empathy one would expect when losing a watch like this. For me, as with most of us here, these watches represent more than just the metal and the nominal value.
A new replacement is my preferred option but this was a 2020 39mm Explorer I and the new 2021 model is 36mm (of course it does have the newer movement etc). The AD is currently working to source said replacement and has promised to come back to me with a timeline in the next few days. If presented with the 36mm Explorer, I'll try and see if it suits me (seems many people like the new sizing and, since I don't have a huge wrist, I'm hopeful it will work just fine for me). Comment: This is my first post, as many have pointed out, and I'm very appreciative of the useful information, insight and well wishes of the many supportive members here. I don't quite know what to make of the other comments... but I suppose there are all sorts here and healthy skepticism to a new voice probably goes a long way. Best! |

Are they going to offer a flat replacement, or will you have to pay any? If you’re having to pay anything, then it may be a good opportunity for you to try to pivot into a different model that’s harder to get—GMT or Sub. |

I can’t imagine a scenario where the AD won’t leave you feeling completely satisfied with the outcome. And if the 36mm doesn’t work for you, pick something you want at 40 or 41 and offer to pay the difference. Good luck, let us know the outcome, and welcome to TRF. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ugh, so sorry for the hassle and I would be very upset. I have a 39mm explorer and didn’t like the 36mm (felt tiny) when I tried it on, but ymmv, be honest with yourself when presented with it. I think a reasonable alternative would be a new OP.

Just hope the AD insured it for market value and not retail.

Congrats you are still here. I think doubts and snarky comments came in when we didn’t hear from you. Lots of posts have begun in a similar fashion only to be ghosted by its author. Hope this all works out for you and apologies for having fun at your expense

Tell them you want the 2 tone if you have to go 36mm lol……that sucks but I’m sure they will make it right……I’m always scared of shipping with vintage pieces because they are not replaceable……..

It sounds like they are going to make you whole and aren't going to sit around waiting for insurance to be sorted out on their end. That's a win in my book. Hopefully the new model size suits you. If not, perhaps you can move into another model of similar value. Good luck and keep us posted.

My guess is if they can’t give you exactly what you had they will give you something a little better. I doubt they will offer you a smaller size.

Thank goodness the OP has handled this himself and not taken the advice from a lot of the people in the forum!
No need to get lawyers involved, no need to worry if the AD insured the watch, no need to worry if it was sent UPS or stagecoach. The AD is responsible for replacing the watch or coming up with a suitable alternative. Continue to work with them as you are and I'm sure you'll get a good result. |
