You do not know what you are saying, if I was you I would not make any more comments until you have a good understanding of Rolex watches and the different countries it has hired in the past to produce watch bands, and the likes. Get a couple of books and start reading.

Now if you can find it documented that bracelets were made somewhere else othre than sitwzerland, then that would seal the case that I rushed to judgement ..... but it has to be documented .....

Alright kids, let's play nice... No need to get belligerent over a coronet..

And RolexSubDate - believe me, you don't need documentation. Some folks here are better than any book I've ever seen... Mike, Tools, and few others - their words can be taken to the bank, mate!

Here's a couple of pictures of a USA C&I bracelet clasp from 1972 that has been documented as being original from Rolex.

It looks to be 9k, and of Rolex construction. 5 points on the crown. Great find

it's not that you were wrong, you were so wrong, with such arrogance and rudeness!

Now you want documents to prove what others, who clearly know more are saying... do you not see how your posts sound and look to us?!

Just let Mike enjoy his find and discuss it with people who know what they are talking about. I don't think he needs to prove it's value or authenticity to you ("now if you can find it documented...")... he isn't trying to sell it to you or take a loan from you.

As Mike says, there was a time when Rolex had their bracelets produced in other countries.

A nice piece. Hallmarked in Birmingham (anchor) 9ct. CYCo ? don't know the mark but will ask around. WAB is known to me. WAB (Watch Accessories Birmingham) was owned by Oscar Winter, a friend of Hans Wilsdorf, and owner of Rolex UK, the importers of ROLEX watches in the UK. Rolex Switzerland allowed ROLEX UK to have bracelets and gold non-Oyster watch cases made in the UK. The date letter will determin its age but I cannot read it from the photograph. Tylden.

You mean like this lovely JB Champion 1960's USA manufactured bracelet?

Or this nice Mexican C&I 7206 (worth well over $1,000 to the right buyer?)

Sheesh.

Rolex began in, and was a UK company for many years..

They finally moved their Hq to the Aegler movement manufacturing site in SA when the UK taxes became onerous..

ok folks ... if people start telling me that rolex outsourced its bracelets to mexico or south america or whatever country other than switxerland, then I am gonna run the other way ... I thought ROLEX was 100% swiss made ...it is just a red flag for those of us who do not know the history too well ....
But in all the rolex books I have read, I never came across this outsourcing....it is news to me .... but I have to see it documented somewhere to believe it, otherwise it is a red flag ...

Cap. letter B would make it 1951. W A B = Watch Accessories Birmingham, Birmingham is England's second largest city, in the Midlands. Tylden.

How about open up Dowling & Hess's book and go to page 309?

Enough document for you or shall I have Jeff Hess send you a sworn statement?

I am very far from being an expert...but applying a bit of inductive technique...I'd place this band in the 1940s...

I would surmise that it was probably a military band...

If you recall hans wilsdorf started his company in London...he also supplied Rolex watches to British military as a morale booster.

Because of importation taxes many rolexes were made out of switzerland to save on the tax...I have a rolex standard 9k manual wind from the 1930's that is exclusive to Canada...

I would think that you have something very special, and probably valuable...but of course that would depend on its true origin, and what that would be worth to someone else...

Either way...I think you owe it to your grandmother (and to us) to actually pursue this...take it to an antique/watch dealer with some knowledge and report back.

---I would be confident in saying that it is definitely not a fake.

-although the bit of turbulence on this thread does highlight the importance of being in touch with one's own ignorance...

Everything I've written above could be totally full of S___, but At least I'm aware of that fact....anyway that's my best educated guess...

Run fast. Not only were bracelets made in various countries, but there are several USA boxes.

In fact during the 60s Rolex made a 17 jewell 1520 movement for the USA watches to deal with higher import taxes at the time dealing with watches over 20 jewells.
