This is one of my most favorite action shots, although my watch is cropped out of the shot. This is the deepest I have ever taken my Rolex. Note the depth guage on the left with the depth displayed in meters -4,913 m.

My oldest and best running are a WW-II era Chronographe Suisse chronograph and the 1958 gold case Explorer. The Explorer is a beautiful watch, although too small at 36mm. My '65 5512 and '66 5513 run very well too.

My favorite is still my original 1991 Sub Date. That watch was my first and only for 12 years, and I waited almost 10 years to get it. I love it the most. However, as some folks here already know, I retired it after my motorcycle accident so I could pass it on to my son. I replaced it with the SD.

Gedanken, I have not done the trip yet. My BMW 1200GS has actually been in the shop a lot lately. It was recalled due to battery problems and it took months to fix. The battery drains down without any reason, and it would not start half the time. I think it's finally fixed.

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. I don't expect you'd want to get stuck in Mongolia with a flat battery. Has BMW pinpointed the cause of the problem?

No, but they replaced ALL the electronics and that seems to have worked. I hear you on the flat battery. That really shook my confidence in the bike. BMW will replace the bike with a new one if this fix doesn't hold. We already had that conversations.

Well, that's good of BMW to offer a replacement. Still, it does raise some questions about their quality control - I still can't figure out how Charlie Boorman managed to snap his bike's frame.

Getting back on track, here's another shot from riding BMW motorcycles in Iceland. This is at the glacier where "Batman Begins" was filmed, after a 20+ mile ride through the tundra and seven river crossings (with no broken frames).
