As a salesman at an AD, I've learnt far more on here than from any official training - I have to say, a lack of formal training material or options is one of Rolex's biggest weaknesses, and is quite probably why there are some frankly unacceptable levels of knowledge in ADs. In terms of product knowledge, in the one and three quarter years here, I've been able to put myself at a level close to associates of mine who have been in the business for over 20 years. I'd even tentatively say that my knowledge of the current line up is a little sharper - I think this pays tribute to just how incredible a resource TRF is.

As well as the product knowledge, TRF has taught me a lot about how people buying watches want to be treated. For a lot of people, the AD experience is important, and I think it's criminal that more ADs don't bend over backwards to look after their customers.

And, most importantly of all, I've learnt not to use a dishwasher to clean my Rolex

Here's a hearty thanks to everyone on TRF who makes it such an incredible place

+1!!! If only I could check the wrists of people in the other non-watch forums that I regularly visit......However, I must assume that some of the great people on those forums must be wearing Rollies...

I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the key contributors in taking their time to educate or the time to greet new members. The articles by “Tools” are exemplary (thanks Larry). I particularly enjoy the “how to” stuff. “Moviefreak” contribution of “Someone is pissed at JJ” is hilarious, but we need to keep in mind the labor of love that “Moviefreak” put into this. I'm impressed with the general warmth of the community and the ability of most to have the intelligence and insight to keep it fun, yet respectful of our diverse community. Just some great folks.

PS: And of course there is JJ.

Of course, the best thing is the knowledge base from the Mods to the members to the resource boards. But, right behind that is the reliable TRF dealers for good pricing!!

I learned I paid too much through my local AD, but that's the cost of doing business through local AD I guess.

I have learned about codes of all decriptions on each model, but i think the best bit about TRF is the knowledge some of the members have and are willing to share that knowledge with you. Ask a question, and it doesn't matter how trivial, someone somewhere will come up with an answer. Its amazing, thanx TRF members you are great friends.

Oh, yeah... how to sell a watch, and what to look out for to protect myself from being scammed. Thanks Greg (Mosco), Tim (Brit78) and Edurado for taking your time.

I have learned from months of lurking before finally joining a month or so ago, that I am an absolute neophyte when it comes to Rolex knowledge. Although I do not currently own a Rolex (current stable-Omega PO and a wallyworld quartz special) that this forum saved me from purchasing what would have been too good to be true. Also, this forum is the perfect oxymoron "playful seriousness", the members are jovial and lighthearted, childlike without being childish if you will, but when its time to get to business, replies are serious and informative, I love it.

i've learned a lot about rolex in general: the history of the brand, technical aspects of the various models and movements contained within them, how to spot and avoid fakeroos and TRF has introduced me to a whole assortment of trusted sellers should i decide to buy another watch in the future.

I learned from this forum that I could buy the watch of my dreams from a trusted seller that I never met and not worry (too much) about the outcome! As far as Rolexes go, I'm still learning something every time I log on.

>Too much to list, but I would say the single most important thing I've >learned from here is how to spot a fake... And I'm STILL learning! Thank >you guys!

The above...plus, some really outstanding tech info and appreciating the craftmanship and history. Until I started reading this forum, I really didn't know *why* it was so enjoyable to put my watch on everyday. Despite the name, there is something magic about looking at my watch - and I only have owned 4 - never at one time. (And, never 'flashed' it or boasted, never had any 'I arrived' moment....it's just my personal, little slice of Nirvanna.)

It's only a watch....but, very few things I own give me this enjoyment.

Good question...it made me think.

with the helps of TRF, I got my first 'authentic' vintage and I am sure that will not be the ONLY one , second one is coming soon

Above all, there is lots of great guys here, full of knowledge, passion for Rolex, and very very very willing to help.

the only thing I do NOT like about TRF is (quote from my wife):

I am even more IN LOVE with Rolex

The technical learning is super, ongoing and much appreciated

From a non-technical perspective it has been useful to learn that I am not alone on the planet when it comes to my watch enthusiasm.

My wife has advised me not to talk too much about my hobby with "normal" friends or people because I get sideways glances about 30 seconds into the conversation! On this forum we can all ramble on without the risk of being ostracised!

Thanks to all for making this forum a super resource
