Well Steven, you're sure on a mission to get that LV. At least you will have a good story to tell once you obtain it.

My personal opinion is just wait until a Houston AD gets one in. I was in your same shoes last October and what I did was call a few ADs in the Dallas area and inquired about the LV. I got the same story about reserving it for "special" customers, but that didn't stop me from looking. I finally found out that Jared's in Lewisville was getting one in for their Swiss trunk show and I snagged it.

I am surprise that you couldn't find one in Houston. Val is a member who lives in Houston who said that one of the ADs had one in a case for some time so shoot him a message to see if that AD still does.

Good luck.

Steven, I completely admire your persistence. I am sure you'll persevere and be so happy with your purchase. Nothing feels better than buying the one that you want. I did that when I bought my Sub date. I walked right in to the AD and said, "I would like to buy a Rolex Submariner". I had the guy practically licking my shoes when I said that (the AD was in a more hillbilly area). I was happy, he was happy, and I'm still happy.

welcome to the forum...going through all this trouble to obtain the watch is part of the process that makes it fun. I had to drive from southern california to nor cali to pick mine up, it was well worth every minute! enjoy your LV when you get it.

Flying from Texas to Florida for a watch?! What's that: 1500 miles and back?

You Americans are crazy! And so is your banking system by the sound of it.

I agree what makes the LV fun is the process I went through to buy one almost 2 years ago, I like the watch very much and will keep it...Since then I have bought 2 more LVs for my relatives. All LV's bought from local Rolex ADs. I heard LV is relatively easy to find nowaday.

I've actually seen them sitting in display cases a couple times in the last month alone... the hype is definitely dying down somewhat.

Yes, I will agree I am crazy and so is my banking system. My pistols are perfectly sane.

I'd just chalk it up to the 'adventure' of getting the watch of your dreams. I don't agree with the AD's inflexible policy but... once committed (or resigned to), I'd just go with the flow... Looking back on it, it will richen the experience and makes for good story telling. I drove more than 1000 miles once to purchase a guitar in person. It adds to the sentimental value to me as I spoke with the maker and was able to make some choices regarding setup and customization. I think this will make a great start to a long partnership...

Exactly....IF you buy a new one it will look exactly like Tag Addicts in 2 weeks. So think twice. I got a new one due to circumstances that made for a good new one deal. Otherwise, I would not have done that. Like I said, you can look to Oregon where there is no sales tax. I don't know how Texas treats that kind of thing tax wise.

Life is unfair and strange. Out of the blue I get a call from my AD that he his holding a Greenie for me. HE gets one or 2 a year. The transaction over the phone took 30 seconds, plus the 45 minutes to get it, and no taxes in Oregon. You folks buying watches should think of taking a trip to the Oregon Coast, enjoy some salmon, visit Portland and Eugene, pick up a Rollie, and come home. Well worth the effort.

First we have to buy a VW bus, some birkenstock sandals and a phish T-shirt, right? LOL

We do have some of that here, as well as the whole spectrum. Oregon is full of people escaping other states to bask in that "goiod sense of the north." I miss the Arizona high desert of my youth, but adore the Pacific Northwest despite the polarized state politics up here.

I am wearing a pair of Birkenstock clogs as I sit here with midnight insomnia. I will, however, put on a pair of Allen Edmonds Oxfords and a grey suit as I enter into my Honda Element tomorrow morning to head off to court. I think I will wear LV for the first time to a work.

Good luck in your quest but if you fail there is a mint slightly used one in the for-sale forum.

Yeah, that mint one is probably what a new one will look like with 2 weeks of use. Great offer.

Saving a 1k is worth getting used..Id go for that. But since this is your first ROLEX you probably want that first buying expirence, which is nice. I had to fly somewhere to get a new car once and drove it back. That was worth it. And it made the expirence a lot better. I think its redicilous that they wont just ship it to you. Look somwhere else, there are 50 states here...Im sure with some leg work you'll find one. I diffinately would buy out of state to save on tax money but I dont know about taking a flight just to get a watch.

GOOD LUCK! let us know what happens

I can't believe they are making you fly out there! Wow, what a waist of time and money.

If I was you I would just buy one pre-owned for much less than retail. I know you want new and all that, but you can find one for about $5k without any name on the papers. I found one for a friend for $4,800 on TZ from a great seller a few months ago without a name on the papers and it was better than like new.

Over $1K savings and no hassle of dealing with any AD BS is worth buying pre-owned to me.

Look, we've told him all along that there is a NEAR mint one on this serve available to him from one of our own. That is good enough for me. I don't know what more can be said. He gets a new one and in 2 weeks it will be indistinguishable from the one on this list sales board if it is still there. I got a new LV, but did not have the option that we have here and now, or I would have taken that.

Having my own name on the papers is worth about $200 to me in the math.
