The second square crown guard watch, looks a reddish insert to me

It's Brownish, as written they are both 5512 square crown guards, it says that only 50 of these were produced!!!

with the help of these better pictures we can try to find the most peculiar differences bewteen mk2 and mk 3 dials besides the coronets :
1) in the word ROLEX the main differences are in the leters R and E , that in the mk2 have more evident serifs in all corners ;
2) also in the following line the mk2 dial is printed in a finer way , whereas the mk 3 has more "square" letters ( almost no serifs at all )
3) line of maximum depth :
-- "6" more open in the mk2 ;
-- letter "t" longer in the mk3 ;
-- letter "f" more bent in the mk2 ;
4) in the word SUBMARINER the letters R are wider in the mk 3.

this 5512 with case number in the 670.000 range and back punched "I-61"
belongs to a very small series from the beginning of 1961 with a "SWISS T< 25" dial that for me is not a replacement one.
the watch shown in these pictures arrived in Italy from the States around the middle of the 90s with a couple of twins ( watches were in an extremely small case range and with this same model of dial ).
the most interesting features of this dial were :
1) mk1 crown
2) line of maximum depth printed all in gold under the transparent paint ;
3) fonts of the numbers "big crown" style ( also seen btw in a few 5510 but with dials signed only "SWISS" ).

thanks to all guys and relatives ( wherever they are from .. LLOOLLL ).
the last coronot ( and dial ) is the "explorer" one .
the most relevant features are :
1) almost dials seen have the "exclamation point" that situate them around 1962;
2) altough the most have arrived to the present inside 5513 cases ( 760.000 range ) , a few are in 5512 cases , so for me we cannot create any rule
stating something like < these dials were made only for 5513 cases in the XXX.XXX range > as someone pretend.
3) about the "provenance" ( the country where these watches have been sold ) ..an ancient "fable" claims that these dials were sold only in UK.
as a matter of fact the few ones arrived in Italy ( for example ) came from UK dealers .. but this is not a "smoking gun" .....
just for comparison ... there is the story of 6538 with "explorer dial" that would have sold only for military use and almost to Commonwealth forces...
to make the story short : in my city there is one of them ( with a damaged dial due to salt-water ) ; checking the case number the answer was :
< sold in Milan in 1955 > ( btw to the father of the current owner ).

Great info everyone! I agree with DiamondJack that it's refreshing to have a genuinely informative thread as opposed to the "where do I put the battery in my sub" type of threads we've been seeing too much of lately.

I had no idea that there was a square crown guard 5512 until now. You think you have a pretty good idea of all the refs out there and then someone comes along like Marcello and shows you something new. As I've said before, one of the things I like most about collecting vintage Rolex is the discovery and the learning process. Thanks to Marcello and the rest of you for providing me with some new knowledge!
