I have to agree with many posters responses. The cyclops is iconic of rolex. So, why would I want the iconic submariner without the iconic cyclops. It's just amazing to me why one wouldn't want that feature. I guess to each his own, but a rolex whether it be date or no date is a great watch.

Its just personal preference but I dont care for the cyclops either. Tired to like it but really throws of the symmetry of the dial and draws attention away from other better details of the watch.

Probaby why after all these years the only two rolex I have left in my perminant collection is the SD and DSSD.

I don't like it because you cannot see the date if you are looking at the date at a slight angle like this....

....it looks a lot cleaner without the blister on the top.

Cyclops? Who needs a cyclops? Heck, who even needs a date!

Cyclops ? Rolex could produce watches without it.
Having said that, I would not take it out from the ones I've got.
Now it is part of the brand and a tough call...

Removing the cyclops on the ceramic models is not a very good solution because of the AR coating. Better to source a 114060 crystal and keep the original with the box and papers.

Loved the cyclops but can live without it also. Great sub!

While I can see both sides of the fence on this topic all I can say is the cyclops stands out & screams rolex. On a ND sub the simplicity of the dial is beautiful but on a sub date IMO the cyclops is a part of the watch & should never be removed.

As previously stated, the clean look of the 14060 is classic and one of the iconic rolexes, i am searching now for the 16600. I personally don't like to "advertise" what kind of watch i am wearing and my personal feeling is the cyclops does just that.

I'm surprised people aren't trying to find ways to flush the crown, or machine the bezel serrations so the edge is smooth. Also wanting to bevel or radius all the edges of the case and lugs. What about the pip? That should be knocked off too.
