Ok I asked for a pic and when and where he got it. Either I heard him wrong or he had a senior moment .. Here is what he said I think it was 1971, but it could have been 72. Purchased in Bangkok, Thailand. Not a good pic.

ouch... from a collector's perspective, that was an awesome watch and with straight second hand!!!

then again, if you ever want to restore the watch to a 'collectable' level, you can still find correct dial, hands, and bezel. Knowing that this watch is an early 1655, you're probably looking at $5 to $6K, but it would definitely be worth it especially if you have the original papers.

Couple of articles about (early) 1655s:

That looks all original, definitely straight seconds. I actually don't think any restoration bar a new crystal is needed really.

I got mine through rather fortuitous circumstances. Here's mine:

After lusting after Dr. Bob's 1655's for quite a while, I ended up picking one up. Love the 1655.

That was before he got it serviced (i.e. luminova dial, new hands, etc...) - as I said before, there still is a chance of getting the watch to the original condition (but that will not be cheap!)

I don't think he would ever spend that kind of money.. He likes it the way it is.. It shows what it has gone through over all those years.. Awesome!
