Well I'm going to go against the tide here...
You don't wear horology and there's nothing holy about any watch. Wear the one that sings to you or smiles at you or whatever it is you use to determine happiness with your watch. (Bracing for flames now) |

No flames but can you expand on this? Not sure I understand you because my gut reaction is of course you wear horlogy, the results anyway!!

I guess what I'm trying to say is a watch's history and status in the horological community doesn't interest me as much as how it fits, feels, looks, stands up to abuse, and yes, even tells time. My reply was a little tongue in cheek and flippant; I hope I haven't offended you or anyone else on the forum. |

To me the VC is totally badass and elegant/classy at the same time, whereas the YM II is simultaneously fussy and garish. Just my opinion...

I've gotta go VC. My favorite chrono with a date. I love how they designed this watch.

In regards to the "holy trinity" talk -I don't particularly subscribe to one ranking brands- I base it all on a model-by-model basis. To say one watch is better than another watch because of history isn't fair when so many brands are just names that have been bought and sold. That's not to say that I'm saying VC isn't quality - just a generalization of brands in general.
That being said, I don't find anything particularly desirable about the Overseas line. |

Having said that, I love VC and would pick an Overseas Chrono over a YMII any day of the week. |

While maybe a silly nickname, it's no sillier than Bluesy, Brusier, Hulk, etc and once you own and experience the craftsmanship, you will understand. Sent from my iPad (so I blame autocorrect for the spellin' errs)

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that these watches are on a whole different level. My gripe is only with the name, not the watches themselves.

Unless the YMII has some sentimental value to you, I'd sell it to acquire the VC.

One counts up and one counts down. Isn't a reasonable comparison. As this is TRF the only correct answer is YM II all day long. VC is nice but this comparison makes zero sense.

VC by a long shot. Here's my Overseas. Not the chrono but still one of my all time favorites.

I have a VC Overseas (date), and I love it. It is unique and interesting and VC has the history to go with the package as well. Nothing against the YM, but an opportunity to own a VC is special for people who are infatuated with fine watches.

I was very close to buying the VC Overseas Dual Time but didn't at the end. The CEO of VC said at SIHH that at next years SIHH they will release a new Overseas line with an in-house movement. I'm not sure if that bothers you or not. But for me, spending 16k or so for a watch with a movement ebauche out-of-house bothered me. Bot that the JLC movement they use is a bad one, but the fact that VC, one of the most respected maisons around still didn't have even an automatic movement in-house for their sports line soured me a bit to the whole company. They move slow over there. But if you're not bothered by this, the Overseas line is lovely and characterful.

I prefer the YM2 for its size. If you were choosing between that and the VC Patrimony Small Seconds, then totally different answer.

YMII for me, I am infatuated with its unique look and no mistaking that it is a Rolex.

Easy for me - in any "YMII vs. XXX" thread I always choose XXX, and in any "VC Overseas vs. XXX" thread I pick VC!

I'm going to come out and say it. I don't think this is fair for the VC. I get they have some implied pedigree. But you are basically taking a watch that is pretty historic in terms of its movement and function and comparing it to something with an off the shelf movement that has been uprated, maybe, and has been seen a million times over. Breitling has so many amazing chronographs that are finished incredibly well, that this VC doesn't impress me. I've owned AP they aren't holy, they are just a watch that is finished well. I bought a RO at 17 with my own cash, believe me if it was awesome I would be shouting AP from the rooftops, vs saying eh and discounting a large investment.
IMO the YMII is horology, its cutting edge, its almost ground breaking in terms of the bezel/movement and people are discounting it as a normal watch because its a Rolex. Historically YMII is an important watch in terms of what it introduces. Then lifting up this basically normal VC watch, with normal movement with a big date, and maybe a bit above average finishing and saying its horology because if its name. No offense if this is your watch, I just don't think you should blast the rolex for not having enough pedigree when this particular rolex is historic in terms of watchmaking. |
