So let me get this straight. You take the best SS Rolex available, a watch that you don't see every day, and you trade it in for the ubiquitous Submariner, a Rolex that is the most faked, and the most often seen on a daily basis. Sorry, but I'm truely failing to see the logic here.
The only upside is that Bollocks Passwind is gone. Last edited by Atomic; 9 February 2006 at 12:06 AM.. |

Well, this is quite a surprise. Here I power up this morning and what's the first thing I see - a two for 1 trade. Gone are the Exp and the Crosswind to be replaced by the Sub.
Can't say I'm overly surprised, though, knowing your propensity for flipping. We all knew the Breitling was not long for the Irani household, but I did think the EXP would stick around a little longer. Now we have a "new" ULTIMATE. (Gee, where have I heard that one before. ) How many of these ULTIMATE 16610's have you had over the years - 2, 3? I've lost track. Don't get me wrong. It's a great watch. It's just missing one little thing - a red 24 hour hand. That really would make it the ULTIMATE watch. Wear it well and enjoy - for as long as you keep it. Which means it will be gone by the end of the year.

Hate that red hand!
as an ex-owner of an Exp II, and the proud owner of a 16610, I know one of the main reasons I sold the Explorer was that damned red hand! - it really used to annoy me, as I had no real use for it, and when glancing at my watch it took a nano-second longer to work out which hand was which. Coupled with a bezel that attracted dings like a magnet, and had no function for timing pasta/parking meters, it just had to go!
And as for the 'ubiquitous' Sub, try buying a new one in London! - every dealer has the Exp II and GMT, a few have the 14060M but none have a 16610. Weird actually - if you just want a stainless steel sports rollie, with a date and 3 hands, the only option is a 16610 (or a kermit I guess) - which in my mind makes it not really 'the ultimate' but 'the ONLY'! By the way, nice to be back, used to be over at Turf but since the re-design damned if I can get back onto it! |

Here's a theme song for JJ:
Flipper They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning, No-one you see, is smarter than he, And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder, Flying there-under, under the sea! Everyone loves the king of the sea, Ever so kind and gentle is he, Tricks he will do when children appear, And how they laugh when he's near! They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning, No-one you see, is smarter than he, And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder, Flying there-under, under the sea! |

JJ,
I did not see your green hang tag in the photos of your Sub. Did it come with it? PR |
