Yes, it certainly is. About 2x the cost too.

It's more similar to a sub in looks though. Tough call... how many people are going to shell out as much or more for this than a Rolex even if it is a very good watch?

Yeah, but that one is $6548 USD through the known graymarket importers. That's new Sub pricing in the US. Seiko is right to keep it and other models like it restricted to the Japanese market - I think it would be a tough sell here.

Thanks Chip I also think it would be a tough sell in the states at that price point, but I think it's a great looking watch. More so than some of the "Hard to get" Rolex models

It'll be a tough sell in the US because the market is saturated with Rolex propaganda.

The Spring Drive is highly regarded by collectors the world over, and in particular the Grand Seiko editions, both mechanical and spring drive are commanding excellent resale values. Just not in the US.

I think the Spring Drive represents the BEST of BOTH mechanical and electronic design, all wrapped together! While, I'll probably never own one (or a GS), I certainly appreciate those who do and hope to handle them some day! Either one is perfect for someone who wants Rolex (or better!) quality with none of the status or "negativity" that some associate with the brand.

You'll be surprised on how easy it is to sell a Spring Drive.
I have been asked several times if my SD is for sale.
After all, only a few hundreds were made of each model and all by hand.

I have yet to see one available on the FS forums or even on eBay.

Here are a few pics of my watch that you have not seen. They were taken by a fellow member on the other forum I frequent. I sent him my SD for a month around January of this year so he can get a feel for it.

Photos by Ben of WWF.

Thanks, but only the top photo is mine so I can't really take credit. Especially when the guy blows me out of the water when it comes to creating a "mood" in his photos.
The other three are pics of my watch but they were taken by a fellow forum member which had my SD on a loan.

I'm well-aware of Spring Drive and Grand Seiko... I like them very much and respect the technology. I'm not a Rolex snob by any means. I'm just saying, it's a tough call. That's a lot to spend on a watch and you can get any number of highly regarded watches that represent timeless watchmaking for that much money. Is there a place for a SpringDrive and/or GS in the collection of the serious watch guy? Absolutely. I'd simply argue that I wouldn't choose one of their divers. Too much money, too many other great dive watches to choose from.

At least in the US, it would be a nightmare to get any kind of service on a watch like this.
