1) I can't stand diamonds on men's watches. Looks tacky.
2) I will be getting the 116613 LB (SB-version)
3) The best image so far in this thread is however the flat blue:

I had the flat blue 116613, but traded up for the sunburst 116618 and IMO, think that the sunburst dial works particularly well w the 116618

Flat blue

Just reviving this old thread as I bought a flat blue dial version today, in my opinion it was a no contest against the sunburst dial, I can appreciate the sunburst is a beautiful dial but to me looks all wrong with the non matching ceramic bezel, the flat blue matches and is the perfect fit, obviously many won’t agree but I’m very happy with my choice

I only like sunburst dials when the sun doesn't hit them directly, the overly metallic sheen makes me cringe a little. So it's flat blue for me, ideally a deeper blue though.

Like the LV-C, the sunburst dial really is something to behold in 3D and natural light. I think the flat blue dial really suits the Smurf, which I think would look all wrong with a sunburst dial, for some reason which I can't define.

Sunburst all the way. I also think Rolex missed the boat with not going with a full blue sunburst dial and bezel on the new WG version.

Bluesy Flat vs Sunburst Dial?

Rolex is very calculating. Maybe if they changed the new Smurf into a sunburst dial, it would cannibalize the bluesy and YG 126618.

I do like the flat on the full gold, but the TT with sunburst is spectacular.

I much prefer the sunburst on both TT and solid gold.

The one positive about the flat blue is that it matches the bezel much better…

116613LB “Flat Dial” 2009-2013 mid year
116613LB “Sunburst Dial” 2013 mid year - 2020 mid year
126613LB 2020 mid year -

Very hard to pick a favorite. If only one, I’d pick the 126613 for the proportions of the watch.

Yeah, I know. I just like the universal flat blue on the YG one. To me, it just flows better.

Also, I think the 11 series wears “bigger” than the new 12 series due to the super case.

I would agree with that, but honestly, not really perceptible on the wrist.

Old thread alert!

I really like the TT Sub sunburst reflection under a direct sunlight. Other Rolex blue sunburst dials don't react with so much flamboyance, let alone flat dials.

Yes, the flat dial is a better match for the bezel as they'll always look the same. With the sunburst dial it will depend on lighting condition.

Flat blue is boring boring boring when you have this option.

I see this thread is a bit old, but I still greatly prefer the flat blue dial. It may look dull/boring but it definitely is not. First off it gives the watch (as you know either the 116613,116618 or 116619) a better look over the sunburst (imho) and in certain lights it looks like a beautiful mexican blue , but in a darker environment it has a deep blue that can't be beat.

I get the love for sunburst dials, but Rolex nailed the "flat blue" dial on it's original iteration and if I were to buy a 116613 again, it would only be the flat blue. Unfortunately I did not love the 2 that I had as I am not a fan of YG, so maybe a 116619 is in my future??

You had two 116618s?? Both flat blue like mine?

Blue bezel matches the flat blue as it was designed to. The sunburst was an after thought / modification of the original concept.

Agreed! Rolex doesn’t make any decisions impulsively, but I believe that when sales were poor for the flat blue subs and people were complaining, they made the change back to the sunburst dial.
