The small dial at the 6 o clock position is your seconds... The large (normally a second) hand is your tachymetre... it only functions when stop watch mode is used... Unscrew the top pusher and push until it clicks....

Thanks guys, that cleared up alot of confusion in my head. I had my AD explain this to me a couple times but I thought I understood them
I'm going to aim for daily use but I don't know how long it will last until I get some scratches |

The white dial Daytona was sort of interesting at $7,900. Not at all interesting at $9,200.

White dials are not more desired -- black are.

But you are trying to decide on one and I would have to recommend black. Worldwide, black is harder to get and commands a higher premium over list in most countries (e.g. Japan). This may not be an issue if you are not going to flip it but rarity is always nice to have. The perceived increased popularity of white in some countries is likely due to the greater availability of the white dial compared to black even though both are still very hard to get at an AD for list price. Finally, there is historic support for going with the black dial. COSMOGRAPH production began in 1963 with the reference 6239, initially with a VALJOUX 72B movement, and identical to that of the 6238 models. The oldest examples have a bezel for speed measurement with graduations and silver counters on a BLACK DIAL for the steel version. Having said all that, get whichever comes your way first. You won't have a choice unless you plan on paying over list. |

That is right about the black dial has higher value than white one in Japan. Last year, I saw both at Rolex AD inside Yodobashi Store in Yokohama, Japan. The black dial cost about $1000 more than the white one. It cost about $14K (New). But, over here, no one care. I picked mine black. The next one should be white.

Lucky you. When my AD called and ask me if I want it the black or white. I was panic and could not choose. I told her, I want both. But, she told me I can have only one. The other is for her co-worker client. But, at the end we both agree with the black dial one. Now, I waiting call for a white one.

Guys, I've noticed my Daytona is either a few minutes behind or a few minutes ahead of what I set it at (used my cell phone time as a point of reference).

how about that, i didn't keep looking at that one after i voted in it. that is the first one i have seen that turned out that way. the white ones sell faster in the usa for sure. it and an explorer are the only sports rolex with white dials available and we consistently hear the comment that the white dial daytona's are easier to read than the black ones. i know the only way i would consider a black dial is if is tt or solid yg, the dial would be yg and black and then it would probably have to be black mop.

Over what period does it run faster or slower? If you use COSC as a guideline, it should be tween -3 and +6 seconds per day. If yours is 1 or 2 minutes off, and sometimes fast and sometimes slow, then I would definitely take it back to get checked out.

White? Black? Your choice
It's debated over and over which face color is more popular. I haven't seen any scientific polls, but as mentioned about Japan (where I live) and the rest of Asia, the blacks are more popular and command a higher price on the gray-dealer market. As mentioned, about US $1,000 more here.
Seeing this subject come up here, I get the impression that North Americans prefer the white but popularity seems to differ region to region. That being said, I hope Daytona fans can buy the color that smiles to them the most (if one smiles more than the other). I happened to like the black myself. The moment I saw one, I knew if I were to get an SS Daytona, it would be black--and so mine is |

I can't decide between black or white. But, I guess it will be a white as six out of my sevem watches have black dials. White dial is a rare colour for Rolex sports models.

Here in the US, the white dial is preferred, but in Asia, the Black dial actually sells more (around $200-300 more) than the white and is wanted more.. in my country at least (philippines)....

I'm glad this topic came up, (obviously) I chose the white <--------- but the first week I had it couldn't get used to telling the time easily. My old watch was a GMT, and it seems the hands stood out in more contrast to the black dial and was easer to see, (of course, I'm just getting blind in my old age). I asked the dealer about swapping a dial and they said they wouldn't do it, get used to squinting to tell the time. I was thinking I had made the wrong choice but one of the salesman at my AD has a black face and is about my age (hence my degree of blindness). I asked him if it was any easier to read the black face and he said no, he had both faces and it really didn't make a difference. Anyone else have an opinion?
