I think it depends on what camp you're in, if you like the newest and greatest technology then you'll be going for the 116600, if you appreciate the older style and history then you'll go for the 16600, it's hard to convince each other from opposing sides.
For me, it's the classic 16600, I never caught on to the new bigger, wider, heavier version Rolexes, I really think it's a step in the wrong direction, but that's just me, all of my rolexes are T<25 dials because I love the patina, I don't care that it no longer glows in the dark, to me, nothing beats a T<25 on a thick dark brown leather strap. |

They each have qualities that make them unique and highly likeable. 16600 is a classic. More of a true tool watch and quite comfortable to wear. 116600 has more of a 'jewelry' appeal IMO, and latest improvements in terms of Rolex technology, make it a great watch to own, together with the 16600 you currently have.

I prefer the 16600. I added this aftermarket clasp. Not a glidelock, but better than the original.

I owned the 116600 and found it to be a fine watch, but the ceramic bezel models always leave me feeling worried, as they seem too dressy and fragile. I realize this is likely not the case, but the ceramic gives me pause.
I currently have the 16600 and it’s a great watch. I think it’s more comfortable and works better on a nato strap too. I continue to wish for a 42mm Submariner, but with the features and design of the 5-digit models. |

Have both as well. All the excellent points for each model have been well presented. Today I be wearing my "T" serial 16600 on a favorite worn and torn NATO (warmer in winter than the 93150). Tomorrow I'll likely wear the other with all its sublte (?!) "bling" and gllidelock beauty!

The 16600 was my first ever Rolex. I wish I hadn’t have sold it
When I was in the market for another I decided to wait for the 50th. |

Had the 16600 about 8 years ago
Sold it due to the feeling of top-heavy... got the 16610lv to replace it and never looked back Never tried on the 116600 Recently got the 126600, which I love i thought the 126600 had the lastest improvement in terms of Rolex tech.. including the lateest 3235 movement.

Both, my 116600 is sentimental to me as it’s the first Rolex I bought BNIB. If it were not for this I think I would keep my 16600 because I love lug holes, love the stamped bracelet, and classic 5 digit case size.

Had both. Found the 16600 to be top heavy and didn't like the bracelet. The 116600 is much more comfortable.
Don't miss the 16600, whereas the 116600 gets more wrist time than any of my other watches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am also in the camp that owned both. Have since moved the 116600 and kept the 16600. I liked much of the improvements on the SD-C and the satin/matte dial was awesome. However, for me, the elongated clasp on the 116600 just didn't work.
In the end I prefer my A-serial with lug holes, tried and true stamped bracelet and overall case dimensions on the 16600. Cheers |

Had the 16600, awesome awesome watch. However, the matte dial on the 116600 is what led to the switch. 116600 gets my vote.

16600 is more comfortable. 116600 is beautiful and shinier. I like both but I find myself wearing 16600 the most

Ah, the classic Sea-Dweller VS thread.
Had both, still keeping 16600. That’s the only watch I will never ever let go. |

respect mate for your decision. 16600 is the real one, no shine and so on. just what you need, no bling bling look ( and clean rehaut )

SDC is just weird. Classic SD has so many wonderful options. Tritium, lumimova + lugholes, no-lugholes, the triple-six with those glorious James Bond endlinks, the unicorns with red dials, rail dials, Comex dials, etc. etc. etc. or you can just pick up a NOS M or V time capsule and watch the money grow. You can collect nothing but classic SD’s and never get bored.

Someone said the 116600 is the best of both worlds, non-ceramic and ceramic, and I agree. The fully graduated bezel, semi-matte dial and gridlock bracelet won it for me.

116600 was my first Rolex purchase. But it never really felt right to me. Top heavy, didn’t like the graduation all the way around the bezel, thought I wanted cyclops, and ultimately traded it for a SubC which I love. Kind of wish I kept it given resale value but wasn’t able to at the time. Several years and a couple Rolex buys later, I ended up picking up a 16600 and absolutely love it. While I appreciate and like the bracelet and deployant of my SubC, I do like the lighter weight bracelet of the 16600. Clasp doesn’t bother me. Perhaps it’s because it just fits my wrist better, but it gets the most wrist time of my collection and I couldn’t be happier. At the end of the day, I think it really comes down to personal preference which you prefer and why. All that counts is that you are happy with your choice.

I would keep the 16600 and spend my money on other things. The 16600 is an absolute legend. If you needed a watch for a "one watch collection", that'd be it.
