I don't flip and likely won't. I have only one Rolex, one Omega and several Seiko watches. I may try to sell a couple of Seikos, but not the Rolex nor the Omega. Cheers, Bill P.

In general, I would say if you flip often, you are probably coming out behind more often than ahead. I've bought & sold a number of watches over the last few years...I'm happy if I can break even or only lose a couple hundred, but sometimes it's a lot worse. Only one transaction lately (Omega PO Chrono) I was actually able to make a profit of around $500. But I don't buy/sell watches as a source of income...I buy what I love and enjoy the watches for however long they are with me. If I eat some $ during the ownership period, it doesn't really bother me as I rationalize that's the cost of having the pleasure to experience the timepiece...kind of like leasing a watch.

I would be extremely leery of the individual that brags about consistently "making money" off of flipping watches - it's a hobby, and we all know how expensive hobbies can become. Cheers.

This might be sacrilege to some TRFers, but I flipped my white dial Explorer 2 for a Gibson 1957 VOS Les Paul Gold Top reissue electric guitar. No regrets!

Semantics?

IMO If you sell, swap, trade etc, a Rolex you have 'flipped it'.

What is the concensus on this?

Does sea-dweller join the flippers?

I don't know about the consensus, but my views on the term were summed up in post #19 of this thread. Cheers.

If you buy a watch, wear it for a period of time (be it a few weeks, months or years) and then decide it's not for you (or you want to free up some funds to purchase another example...or your damn wife won't let you buy any more until some inventory is 'cleared out') then I wouldn't consider it flipping - it then just becomes buying & selling. Same term applies for auto's & homes...there is a big difference between buying/selling cars & houses as opposed to "Flipping" auto's & homes IMO.
So how many haven't you flipped?

Watches I thought I wanted and preflipped without buying:
Airking blue face
Expy II white
SS/Pt YM
Pam 183
Pam 210

My horological model is to never flip and expensive watch. I'll end up with more that way I hope! You never know however. There may be a model that comes up to me one day that will cause me to flip for real.

Ones I'm pondering to purchase:
Pam 000 - logo 2 hander
Pam 001 - painted 3 hander
Pam 111 - sandwich 3 hander
Fifty Fathoms (dreaming...)
SS Daytona white (want to try one on and see what the hype is about)

The quickest I ever bought a watch without thinking about it.
Seconds, the GMT IIc. Didn't think I liked the polish based off of pictures I saw. Then I saw it in the metal, and bought it on the spot!!!!
I'll never flip it (I hope )
Thought this post was great Mik... "preflipper"...

To date, I have never flipped a watch and only sold one after owning it for 8 years. I don't miss it though. Much happier with its replacement...

I've never flipped a watch for fear I will miss the catch and it will fall to the ground and get all scratched and dinged up.
