I think it looks cool.... I would maybe do the head and throw it on a strap.

ANYONE know of a place in the USA that does it on a one-wath basis?

I wouldn't do it. 1400 Euro ($1818.39) is a lot. I just don't see a PVDzation as money well spent.

That is VERY pricey!
I can get it done here in the states for a few hundred but Id do
a DLC instead of a PVD it will wear MUCH better. Ball Watches have
a couple models done in DLC, I have one and so far it has really held
up well and taken some abuse.

I was just able to get a handgun done in DLC for $400 so I think
thats VERY pricey for PVD

I think the picture of that watch looks pretty cool, but then the milguass is a totally blah watch design to me. That gives it a little more edge and makes it look different.

Just keep in mind any coating will wear and when it does it will look worse than a scratched up plan jane SS watch and getting it looking good will cost way more and take way more effort than plan ss.

Price quoted also seems like a total rip off given what we pay to coat things here in the states. Figure a full service at an independent watch maker @500, get the parts that need to be coated for 500 and this is still very high relative to what you are quoting

I have a friend who's just bought the green Milgauss about 2 weeks ago in London and is now considering the PVD treatment, having seen the pix posted here.

My take is that if you don't mind the cost and the likely invalidating of your warranty, then why not? People buy expensive cars like Ferraris and paint them all sorts of non-conventional colours like pink or green, so why not PVD your Rolex if you want to?

Have a look at the 1665 Seadweller on this page http://www.thewatchguru.co.uk/Vintag...tches.asp?pn=5
Apparently the process is completely reversible, so if you had the same thing done it could be taken off and either left or redone if it started looking tatty

It looks great but doesn't it devalue the watch? I am not very experienced in this area, so please excuse the ignorance!

Not for me... I think it does look cool though. I think there are other watches I would go to for the black out look. Watch Time had a bunch in there in their last edition.

If it were mine, I would not. My 2 cents.

I also dont think Rolex will service a watch that is PVD treated.

As with most things it probably looks ok when it's brand new but would look very second hand very quickly IMO. As for reversing the process - why bother spending the money in the first place?

Why is a good question... as long as it generates reflection. This reminds me of George Leigh Mallory (1922) famous quote:

"The first question which you will ask and which I must try to answer is this, "What is the use of climbing Mount Everest?" and my answer must at once be, "It is no use." There is not the slightest prospect of any gain whatsoever. Oh, we may learn a little about the behavior of the human body at high altitudes, and possibly medical men may turn our observation to some account for the purposes of aviation. But otherwise nothing will come of it. We shall not bring back a single bit of gold or silver, not a gem, nor any coal or iron. We shall not find a single foot of earth that can be planted with crops to raise food. It's no use. So, if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won't see why we go. What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all, the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is for".

It's late here and I'm tired... I hope you'll allow the latitude...

Cheers!

I wonder how difficult it would be to reverse it. Sounds complicated. I'd leave the watch in it's original state. Good luck.

you cannot scratch it by normal use...

pvd is something that cover the stainless steel to avoid scratches.

pvd means Physical Vapour Deposition

warehouse PVD is based on the principle of the evaporation vacuum packed of the metals that, to the ionic state, come made to condense, forming a warehouse on a substrate, after to have reacted with a gas and formed a compound thus.

Advantages of treatment PVD Extreme superficial hardness (2500/3000 HV) Maximum corrosion resistance: beyond 1500 hours of exposure to the salt fog without some superficial alteration (ISO9227) Excellent resistance to the scratch and the abrasion (the double quantity of the galvanic chromizing) Unattackable from dissolvents, acids or alkali and from used products antilimestone for domestic use Inalterabilitą to light U.V.: 2400 hours (ONES 9397)

hope to be helpfull to understand what is pvd

You have to admit that is one SHARP looking watch and if released by Rolex in small numbers the collectors would go ape$hit for it.

I had the same hankering, so I bought this. It has that same "tactical" look to it and it cost me less than 300 bucks. It's my daily beater and I love it.
