i am in boston for concerts right now far away from my country
but i will try to do it later for you

also, i agree with you that the YM II is really expensive
but i disagree that you need to be able to afford a yacht in order to have it

and for everyone's info i am not a rich guy at all
i have a normal job with a normal salary from which i have to pay my house loan (and my house is really small)
i dont drive fancy cars and my savings account is at 0 right now
and like everyone else i own money to credit cards
of course i don't have a wife or kids yet so that makes things easier i guess

...that said i am so passionate about watches that i would always choose the best for me...isn't it all about passion???

people around me think i am crazy to own such an expensive watch
on the other hand i think they are crazy for spending their money into cars, clothes, clubs and hookers

each one to their own
but we all need to thank god for being healthy and for being able to make our dreams true

although i'm normally more taken with the air-king, explorer, oyster perpetual look - sorta the no frills basic rolex - i do kinda like the ym II in gold - i think the red, white and blue face is striking.

and hey, try not to take the criticism and name calling too seriously, you know what they say about opinions and arseholes... i have an air-king and people are always saying it's too small, a woman's watch, etc - and i just laugh - cause i like it and i don't care what they think!

How profound, did you coin that phrase yourself?
When you have mastered its operation and become more familiar with yacht racing, perhaps you will compose something a little less vernacular and more comprehensive.

First off, Tony, sailboat racing takes on many boat sizes and age groups. My kid races an Optimist dinghy, which is about the size of a large bathtub, and as a teenager, she certainly cannot afford a gold YM-II.

Read this, which explains how sail boat races are started using a countdown sequence.

http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/doc..._Start_Sys.pdf

The YM-II can be synchronized to any of the minutes in the starting sequence, and can "catch up" if you miss one of the guns or horns. This is a remarkable complication. I tried on both the yellow gold and white gold models, and while I really liked their overall proportion, we all know why these two don't look that great. I think if it is eventually offered in steel, it would be a great tool watch, and very different than the DSSD. That watch, to me, is basically a 3186 movement in a case on steroids. The dial, the bracelet, and the lugs are the same as the 16600, which results in an awkward example of proportionality.

[She and her friends won't be buying many YM-II's.]

Here is the other extreme (I have sailed on all of these boats), and I would imagine the owners of these boats can well afford a gold YM-II:

You cannot knock this watch purely on it's looks. It is a mechanical masterpiece and well done Rolex.

The more I look at it the better I like it. A TT version would be desirable to me.

I guess since I will never be able to use the watch for it's intended purpose my opinion is based completely on visual appeal but overall I like it. If I had to choose something about it that I don't like it would be the empty square hour markers and the YACHT-MASTER printed on the bezel. I've seen several people use the name Clownmaster to refer to it but that doesn't tell anyone what it is that is disliked about the watch.

Is the blue used on this watch the same color blue as is used on the new Blue face and bezel Sub. or is it similar to the old blue used on older subs? It looks closer to the new blue on my monitor.

YM II in YG is like the root beer GMT, terrible in photos but great in person.

SS version would sell but I am sure it would come at $15k.

I WILL buy one eventually, sooner if it was available in steel. The amount of technical know-how that went into this watch is phenominal!

You my friend would know better than most. I intend on keeping the one I have and, should my arm stop being able to raise itself with the watch on it, I will donate it to the po'folks in Kentucky that can only dream about being an official Clownmaster Master.

Yes, I totally agree - the watch looks much better in real life than in pictures. And yes, I would buy one if I could afford it, whether in gold, platinum or steel because I think it's a handsome watch. By the same token, I'm sure there are many people who might not like it and that's also fine with me - if we all agreed on what's attractive and what's not all the time, the world would be a pretty damn boring place.

The branding on the bezel is simply too much, the rest of the watch I do not mind, but that puts it over the edge.

Also with a complication that few can use with any regularity it will never be a big seller.

For many the price of the Yacht II is out of range, however keep in mind that should Rolex ever release the Yacht II in SS, the price would most likely be over $15,000 US. Considering that the SS Daytona is now $9,925 US and that the movement of the Yacht II is based off the Daytona movement, which took Rolex three years to develop after they developed the movement for the Daytona, a few price increases and most likely first releasing the watch in 18/SS then in SS. The demand would be through the roof, but buyer beware a basic service for the Yacht II would be over $1,200 US through a Rolex repair center.

I'm sure it would sell well (as all Rolexes tend to do), but I wouldn't consider one.

My YG YM II is my favorite watch to wear. One of the main reasons I wanted this watch is strictly because of the fact that there would be so few out there at least for awhile. I love the bigger size and look of the watch...........

At least its a Yatchmaster that does something, I would buy a white gold, but there are other models I would get before the YM II

I doubt that EVERYONE would want to buy a SS YMII. That's a hell of a lot of people.

I saw the WG version in the local AD window and it did look a lot more impressive than in the photographs.

Mind you it was pretty damn expensive.

Id buy one as well just to try to get it before Nigel ;)

Just kidding but yes I would buy one.

You must see the watch in person to appreciate it and it
is an amazing timepiece.

Yogi, don't you think the proportions of the case are fantastic? I think an entire line of professional watches with this case AND bracelet size, including the expanded lug width, would go head to head with any Pam, IMHO.
