another possibility one could go for would be the speedy reduced automatic..you can get them for $600-800 used .. but i personally dont like them.. would rather go for the lemania based moonwatch, but pay more $$$.

another thing you may wish to look at are cwc watches which are the British militrary watches used by SBS (british equivalent of navy seals) and RAF .. good value watches which are tough, for not much $$$
