It's interesting to note that neither rolex's new catalogue nor their website refer to any of the current gmt iic's as '50th anniversary models'. If you search this forum you will find a lot of information on this rolex.

With respect to the controversy surrounding the "true" 50th Anniversary LV, a recent survey here at TRF revealed that the only Y serial LVs out there appear to have been purchased in the Asian market. I have an F serial LV which I purchased on 23 December 2003. I also have the 2003 brochure, CD, and letter to my AD that touts the LV's release in 2003 as a commemoration of the sub's 50th year of production.

I suspect that the difference between Y and F serial numbers reflects the market the watches were sold to, and not which is the rarer series. Does anyone out there have a Y serial number LV purchased in Europe or North America?
