I’ve owned both DaytonaC and 520 SS, one must go and the 520 still in the collection. I purchased both new at AD and paid msrp. Is that answer the question?

I would pay more for a NOS 116520 than a new 116500 if they were sitting side by side. But I have never spent over $7,000 on any watch and may never.

I do "want" a white dial ...520, I think they are beautiful, but not for the $16-17,000 price a nice used one commands lately. I thought about it when they were around $11k but by the time I got serious about it they had created $13k and shot fairly quickly to where they are now.

The durability of the bezel on the ceramic is nice. I doubt I would have switched to a 116500 had I already had a 116520. Nor to a 116520 if I'd already owned already owned a 16520. If someone is new to the Daytona hunt then likely they'll end up with the current model as there isn't that much spread in the costs. If buying from an AD the current model is a bargain in comparison the the older ones on the secondary market.

Exactly. Believe it or not, the 116520 is actually for the people who like the 116520 - watches aren't more complicated than that.

I bought both my white and black 116520s at an AD for list before the 116500 was out. Please don't classify 116520 owners as paupers needing to compromise on a timepiece purchase , as that may not be true.

Hell no. The 116520 has the great 4130 movmt and is classic looking. It is just another in the now much loved line of Daytonas.

No. I own one of each and enjoy them for every different reasons.

Money and all else being equal, I’d roll a die rather than pick if I could only keep one of the three.

Hornet's nest stirred lol......

I love both equally for sure. Totally different feel with just the ceramic insert change but doesn't devalue/make the 116520 any "worse."

I think if someone wanted a Daytona and could not get the 116500 at MSRP, the next best option would be to get a 116520 before they cross the $20k mark.

The 116520 is not a poor choice but is currently priced less than the 116500.
Maybe that is what the OP meant.

If someone really fell in love with the Daytona and was on a budget, I’d strongly recommend the poor bastard look at the two tone 116523. It used to be easy to find them under $10k. Not anymore.

Having owned 16520,116520 the new model just seemed a natural progression I love both off mine and fwiw I think it’s the best off the three models being discussed , I wish it didn’t have PCLs . Tom GB had one refinished by LAWW it was the nicest 500 I have seen with brushed lugs and brushed bracelet Perfection ! The pcls have always been a scratch magnet and bugged me

That's actually an interesting observation and it seems true based on the relative prices. Three years ago the 16520 sold at a discount to the 116520, now it's the most expensive of the three automatic movement SS Daytonas. The 116520 was made for 15 years and there are probably more of them in existence than either the 16520 or the 116500 so that might account for the lower price. There also doesn't seem to be much dial variation in the 116520, so if you have two, black and white, your collection is complete.

I’ve tried both and much prefer the 116520. The 500 did nothing for me oddly.
