Yeah, but there is this that nobody is talking about. Anyone that owns one, and I'm talking actually about the 6 digit, knows that they wear really different than a GMT Master in regard to how they sit on your wrist. Could be good or not, for me it's probably the best fitting watch I have. Now that being said, based on pictures alone without having had an in person experience prior to purchasing one I might have a different perception of the model, but once I put it on it's been in the top 3 for me ever since.

Why no love for the Explorer II?

For me I find that the Polar is an unbeatable combo for my SS Sub. Love the white dial and always a nice change from the black. I personally also think the 42 looks a bit more modern, playful and younger compared to the other sports models hence it may not appeal to some. I think it’s awesome.

If thats how you justify liking your watch fine. I bought my sub cos its a an iconic and beautiful watch. Actually was only $aud600 more than a brand new explorer2 when i bought it (less than retail) before the bubble. Sorry but i think you must have rocks in your head if you think an exp2 is a better watch than a sub date ceramic.

I thought his answer was actually super. And in no way was he justifying anything.

Sounds like you might be though.

Besides, he’s clearly correct. Rolex does not market the explorer 2 like it does the sub. Never has. Likely never will.

Clearly, this answer is subjective tho. As is anything related to someone’s preference of anything. So ok, you say it’s butt ugly. Alight, again, that’s subjective. IMHO, shows a complete lack of class to make a statement like that, but my opinion is subjective too.

Yet to say he’s got rocks in his brain because he prefers this model over the one you like...:

Personally, I prefer the Explorer 2. I must have rocks in my brain too. But I love the look and the style. The legibility far exceeds any other Rolex I’ve worn. The lume is fantastic and shines all night long. It wears great and the proportions for me are super. I also think it is a very striking watch.

And I love the fact that not every single bloke that wants a Rolex is wearing it. It is far from the boring sea of mundane conformity.

FWIW, I love the sub. Most especially the 114060.

But it’s hard to deny that it’s by far the most common sports model. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s common because it’s great. People want it.

But dang, youve got a way with words.

I had a 16570 and traded it away. I might end up getting another one sometime down the road. However, I cannot abide that orange text and hand on the current reference.

I don't care for the exaggerated, almost cartoonish, look of these pieces. Perhaps this is intended, as it does increase visibility, but I think it's over-kill tool-ism. Just not for me, I guess.

Personally do not like the look of the Explorer II. That said, I can see why some would prefer it. When I went in to buy my first rolex, I was very open minded to all of the rolex's, the submariner and GMT just looked damn beautiful to me. The Explorer II not so much.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)

My 216570 Polar is my favorite Rolex. Love the steal bezel and the toolwatch look. Now looking to add a black 16570. Did make one small mistake do. I should have gone for a 16570 in white and a 216570 in Black. '7inch wrist and sometimes i feel the Polar is just a little to big on my wrist depending on the angle and pushing my limites. I see the same in most of the pics in this thread do.

Its a great second/third/> watch. Most people own only one watch which explains this model is less populair as there is not that much difference in price compared to a sub/gmt.

No idea what he's talking about.
I love my 16570 polar, owned it since '91 - not too keen on the newer larger one, but reckon it would be cool in white gold

Good answer. Don’t disagree with your assessment either. But that’s what actually appeals to me.

Is it simply because it doesn't have a rotating bezel? They must sell enough of them to stay in the line. Any thoughts?
Rolex hit the nail on the head with the design of the Sub and GMT, with the black rotating bezel, main street loves it. Explorer II looks different and they did not hit as many with that design as the GMT and SUB.

So what do you have to say op. Or is this just another of your recent threads you start just to get people going.
You make a controversial statement and watch people debate without adding anything to the discussion and most of your opinions were way off reality.

Ultimately op picked a fight he wasnt prepared to walk into. I find the exp2 dull but that is my taste. I actually nearly bought one for my 1st rolex but i wasnt feeling it. So i waited a bit and got a sub. Which i love. Then i bought a bluesey, which i also love.
To me the exp2 looks weird, like a strange franken watch or something.
Good for those who can find beauty in it though. Bravo.

After being around for so many years and going through so many watches, I have ultimately realized that all Rolex have a certain beauty and when seen in the right context, you can find yourself singing it's praises. If money were no option, many would likely own one of every Rolex, but based on first lifestyle then budget, we choose the ones we can't live without.
I really like the X2 but not more than a BLRO or BLNR comparing it to a GMT watch and I love the Submariner more just comparing it to a Rolex watch.

Statements like "why no love for xyz" is just another way of saying, I like this watch but don't have the confidence to decide for myself so please help me with your opinions.
Because I notice that the op of such post usually own, like or want to buy the watch in reality.

Now that I have a Submariner ("No-Date")
My Sub is also a two-liner no date. It's not unique but it doesn't scream ROLEX! like the date version. The Polar has the same appeal for the same reason.

I find the 16570 to be the best 'under the radar' Rolex. It works for just about any occasion and has the same movement as the 16710 GMT.

I've owned seemingly every sports Rolex model and the Explorer II is by far my favorite model. It will never be as popular as the big 3; Daytona, Submariner and GMT Master II, but then again it's doubtful any watch from any manufacturer will be as popular as the big 3 from Rolex.

So like every Rolex model, there's a strong following but, you are competing with the big 3. But for my money, if I could only have one; black 42mm Explorer II all day long.

Just wore it for 3 days in a suit in DC and didn’t think twice about it. That said my BLNR would have been a dressier choice but it’s on an Everest rubber strap currently.
