Can't stand them. Makes any watch look bulky.

No way. Like cheap wheels on a Rolls Royce. Rolex is a bracelet watch for me.

I wear my Sub on an Everest (rubber) band most of the time because I'm always on my computer and don't want to scratch the bracelet or laptop. Love the more casual look of NATO or rubber and it's a lot more functional for me too.

You guys are strange, most of Rolex's watches are tool watches...

Just like the Blanc Pain Fiffty Fathoms that the Submariner was a copy of...

Funnily enough tool watches, need tool straps that's why BP FF - comes with a sailcloth strap... Same with Natos.

Get over your egos, a BP sailcloth strap puts Rolex bracelets to shame. Furthermore, its only of recent times that Rolex bracelets have got to a stage where people say they're good...

Interesting, create a topic inviting responses to your watch strap. Get mixed responses. Get upset and brand some members “pretentious cucks”...

Hmmm...

I've tried to NATO multiple times. Can't get used to the bulk from the extra strapage at the top lug. Also, the buckle always lands on the side of my wrist. I cannot get used to that.

I do like the security a NATO provides. If a lug pin gives way, the other will hold it in place long enough to grab the watch and prevent a fall to the ground. I also like the feel and fit of a simple nylon strap. As an alternative I found several Zulu Diver straps that solve my issues with NATOs.

No. It makes an otherwise great looking watch look like it came from Old Navy. Nowadays it's the latest fad. The oyster bracelet is really beautiful and I actually like to look at it, a stinky try-colored nato not so much.
But it's your watch, put it on a string if it makes you happy.

I had my SubC and BBN on a NATO for a couple years... Put them back on the bracelet. So the only ones still on a NATO are my vintage Tudor sub and a couple other watches from other brands (Kobold, B&R)

No ego but over two decades of Rolex experience and personal opinion. I never thought my Rolex bracelet wasn't good back then??

Love it on my seiko but not on my rolex.

I wear the nato so the extra strap is located at the bottom of the wrist

You mean the clasps? The hollow end links?
Yeah, you're right they were perfect. That's why they're the same and they didnt update them... Oh wait, they did. Solid endlinks was quite a big deal. As were the non stamped clasps...

You might not have noticed / not disliked them. But Rolex were not known for their bracelet quality... Like all brands they have evolved over time.

Hey!

I will swap out into a nato every so often. I will agree that i really really dislike (...not hate) the big bunchey-up effect that can happens by default.

So, the few nato straps I do own are trimmed to be JUST sufficiently long enuff to be restrained by that last keeper: Keeps things trim and neat!

Here's a shot on one of few and favorite (and very drab) nato. However, I have been back on the bracelet for a while now....

While not a huge fan of NATO's, I am a huge fan of the Tudor fabric strap on my Black Bay ETA, which is way more comfortable than a NATO.
Due to being diagnosed with a particular skin condition, I can no longer wear metal watch bracelets on a daily basis, so if I keep my Sub, then I will be buying another Tudor fabric strap to fit to the Sub, or I may p/x the Sub for a Exp 2 Polar and fit a fabric strap to that.

That's true, but a $20 nylon strap that looks like it came from an old lawn chair is not my idea of an upgrade from a mediocre bracelet.

so strange that everyone seems so worried about the cheapness and appearance of the nato strap

Not a huge fan of classic natos; more so of perlons. I actually removed all the extra straps of my natos, and now they are essentially perlons. Plus you can then actually move the buckle, keepers, and folded strap underneath your wrist, instead of having the bulk sticking off the side.

You can trim the second layer of strap off the nato and it works the same.

But that is your opinion. Just like a lot of people including myself thought the older bracelet was inadequate.

I also like natos, and you do not.

Then you haven't look at all the natos available. Because they are definitely not the same. But most perlons definitely look like a lawn chair materiel.
