Polar. The EXP2 is one of my favorites of the modern references.

If you're keeping a black face submariner then you have to go for that white dial. For the contrast it's really nice and also it will be noticed that you've switched watches. The others all blend in...Nice on their own but as a 2 collection, go for contrast! White Explorer!

1...no doubt. It has a dressier look than the II and the Sub. The II and the Sub have a relatively similar format IMO.

100% Exp II polar which is exactly what I did. Great balance of color no matter which Sub you have, complimentary sportiness, and a GMT on top of it all. Urban legend and forum lore says they are too big and uncomfortable but reality, for me at least, is that it is the most comfortable and versatile Rolex I have ever owned.

Thanks!
Boot the Sub, buy both Explorer and Explorer II.

Explorer II polar. I’ve put a lot of thought into this. If it were the only two in the collection, you’d want 2 completely contrasting watches. The polar with white dial and a dash of colour with the GMT hand is a perfect pair with the sub. The sub is all black, very low key, and checks a lot of the same boxes as the explorer I. Plus the explorer II has GMT function so its a no brainer

EXP II polar for the contrasting color and GMT function, however if you need a watch that dresses up more than the Sub C then the EXP might be a better choice.
