For a Day Date purchase, I would rather deal with the AD and get my name on the card and on Rolex system. And I would pass that piece to my kid when he’s older and ready. It’s a Day Date. It’s a Presidential piece!

Now getting the piece from the AD in the hope of getting something in return like a hot SS Rolex sport watch is probably worth a try, but don’t put all your hope on it. Most probably the AD would take advantage of the current scare Rolex timepiece to leverage it position on the other less interesting pieces. Maybe not. Going to smaller Rolex store may work. Maybe not.

Now getting a substantial discount for a Rolex timepiece may no longer be the norm. At most, just hope for a 5-10% discount to help offset the sales tax on the timepiece.

Good luck on the hunt!

Really? I usually see at least one DD40 in every AD window in these countries.

30% might be too much but I´d expect at least 15-20% from an AD for a DD40, even nowadays.

5-15% off on a DD. Get yourself on the list for an SS.
To be honest your first strategy would be to ask for a Batman, Hulk or BLRO. When they say long waiting list, you tell them you're also interested in buying a DD-40. See how they react. Even if you pay full price for the DD-40 and full for the Hulk you'd have saved significantly (if you were to sell off the Hulk lol)

But is it worth it to pay more with an AD just to have the name in the system? That's the main question - discounts can be had in 20-30% range from trusted sellers like DavidSW, etc. etc.

Name on the card and on Rolex system - they’re important to me. So I have no qualms in doing it. It may not be the case for others.

The utility value of that 20-30% discount in TS vs 5-10-15% discount in AD may have to be considered. My take again is since it is the flagship Rolex Day Date Presidential, I would want to have it in my name.

Significant discount - Card in your name

These are not mutually exclusive.

I’m in a similar boat...have many years (health permitting of course) of collecting ahead of me, and I worry what if the AD closes down. Can’t overthink it too much. Pick a decent AD who you can build a relationship with and if something happens, then you can pick another, explaining why you’re enquiring into a watch ( explaining why the change of AD, proudly showing off your current collection) if an SA can’t appreciate future repeat business from a collector, then it’s not the AD for you!

What part of CA are you in? And what SS piece are you looking to get with the DD?

Wow - that seems like such a huge discount. Am not sure any ADs around here would get even remotely close to that price.

I've been trying to source one over the last year, prefer the Oyster but would buy the new model given the chance as well.

Last month, Friday March 1st to be specific, I picked up my YG sub brand new from my AD, same AD I bought my SS subC date, dj41, and dj36 for my wife. I bought all these watches within the last 18 months and have received fair discounts on all pieces..at the time i was picking up the yg sub, I tried on the dd40 with white Roman dial. If I wanted the dd40 he would’ve let it go to me for 29k, same price as I paid on the yg sub. No tax with being shipped out of state. Keep looking discounts are out there. And I’m from Brooklyn NY where everyone wants SS and YG. Just build a relationship or possibly have a friend make an introduction to one of their AD’s. Currently waiting on the hulk. Any day now

It’s basic negotiating skills. Just cut like you’re buying a car or buying furniture. Best deal wins. I got almost 28% off my 228235 and no tax. Simle. Don’t over think it. Find the person who has the watch that you want. Make him an offer. And they have the option to say yes or no. Just like you have the option to walk away.

Never got this name on the card thing.. totally useless and definitely not worth several thousands. But everyone spend their money as they see fit.

If you change name on card to ‘relationship’ meaning you can get a hot SS then that has a value worth paying for perhaps.

Nice discount, here in Ontario I asked about a dd40 RG and they said no discount and this was 3 weeks ago and I have bought a SS Daytona and various jewelry. Not to mention here in Canada it’s 41K + 13% tax. Do the math yikes. Good to see our fellow American can still get deals. No discount seems to be the new norm up here.
