You guys realize the thread is from April. I assume OP already got the watch he wanted. I wish we could see the thread's start date and not just last post date.

For a number of reasons

1. The S in MSRP stands for Suggested. Implies that there is wiggle room.

2. It is a mass produced luxury item with a healthy profit margin on it already. Not a critical life support system.

3. Why would the AD not show good faith in building a customer relationship by giving a small discount and great service...

At the end of the day discount is a tool for a savvy salesperson to use to build a good customer relationship.

After all, is it better for an AD to save 5% today in 1 sale, or give up 5% but make a customer for life who may buy multiple watches?

Keep in mind, DJ41 is a huge range... I was offered a good-sized discount on the model with the green roman numerals. But I find that one ugly... apparently enough people do that they can't sell them. (Which is also why Sub fans are able to note that DJ41s are in stock... because just a few that don't sell are.) But if you're after the blue or rhodium DJ41 Rolesor, not only no discount, but a wait ahead of you.
But the leading grey can get it, minimal token discount but you can at least get it.

This is out of touch with reality... the late 80s/early 90s broke this forever...
  • Companies aren't loyal to employees - layoffs and all.
  • Employees aren't loyal to companies - job-hopping for the next raise or promotion. (It would help if those were easier to get in-house.)
  • Salespeople don't stay at a company long. (Although one of the two ADs near me is a family business, so they're different.)
  • Customers have been innundated with choice for years, and price-shop heavily. Amazon is big for a reason.
The salesweasel has no reason to "build" a relationship when s/he'll be gone in six months and you'll go elsewhere to save $20 or two weeks.

Maybe between 0-3% discount on a DJ41 in the UK at the moment.

Discounts are rare in Chicagoland.

Here we have two ADs. One normally gives 15% on non sport PM Rolex, and the other has MSRP 20% over the first and gives 35%. Here if you don’t ask for a discount you are considered a fool and over paying.

In the same situation. Fancy a DJ 41 with black arabic dial.

ADs are NOT offering any movement and preowned prices are firming up.
