GS for me! There isn’t a feature in a Tudor that’s not answered (in an even better way) by Rolex
But, GS takes things to the next level! The craftsmanship, details, accuracy and charm of the dial, hands and case are light years better in the GS imho

I’m with you, but styling is the only subjective argument. I have GMTs from Rolex and Grand Seiko. I don’t travel much, but I do business internationally regularly. There is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that Grand Seiko is a better watch. However, if I’m dressed casually for the day, I reach for the Rolex. Im in a GS all other days of the week. (I know this was supposed to be about Tudor, but the main point is the same.)

If these are the top two factors on your list, these brands are to be avoided if the watch is purchased new @ retail.

Neither do that well. They have a few references that hold, but most drop down considerably in value.

Stick with Rolex if that's what you main focus is.

I find them to be very different. But the finishing on GS is far superior to tudor, Rolex, and even PP in some instances. Both tudor and GS offer a hell of a lot of bang for the buck so to speak.

Not really apple to apple comparison. Both have thick watches though.

Pricing - Tudor offers some of the best value pieces available today
Movement - GS wins imo, Tudor making strides in this area however
Value retention - draw, I think both perform equally
History - draw

If offered the two, I'd take a Tudor. The design speaks to me more. Although I appreciate the quality and attention to detail on the GS, they just don't appeal to me and I find them too dressy generally speaking.

I like the GS over the Tudor for the most part. However, to me buying a GS is like buying that near $100,000 Hyundai over an S Class

Well, if your going by quality and actual heritage GS in a heartbeat, in fact I would argue that Rolex isn’t even in there league. But bragging and pure snobbery, Rolex without a doubt and Tudor also.

Tudor Black Bay 58’s hole there value quite well if not turn a profit. But the rest of the lineup of black bays do loose a bit of value but nothing compared to GS.

I don't have any personal experience with Grand Seiko, though I wish I did, but it is my impression that GS is a more refined watch.

The more one learns about Seiko the more one appreciates the brand and its history.

Those who disparage Seiko are simply clueless.

Pricing: Tudor
Value retention: both are eh (probably Tudor wins)
Movement: 10,000% GS
History: Seiko in general

GS are made with better details and nicer movements / cases then even Rolex (let alone Tudor).

One sort of lives in the shadow of Rolex as the most popular Tudors are sort of homage / bold iterations of its parent brand. The other is unique and stands alone. The bracelets on most GS are downright awful but the watch makes up for it.

Tudor vs GS, I think GS is a better watch all around. I have owned two though and sold them both. I own a 58 and love it still.

If you must have a Tudor because the way it looks really speaks to you, then go ahead and have it. If not, then GS all day every day.

If I was buying a GS today I would be looking at mechanical movements or quartz. I would ignore spring drive since to me it is the worst of all worlds, complicated, expensive, not necessarily more reliable and with an ugly power reserve indicator. Pointless essentially.

GS is way above Tudor in so many ways. History and heritage and movements.

They are both great! I prefer Tudor style to the GS look, so I chose Tudor. I could see myself wearing a Blue Pelagos some day.

Tudor is an excellent value. GS is technically superior in some ways. But if you don’t like the look, who cares.

GS dials are amazing. Spring drive is fascinating. Nothing else about their watches excite me. The bracelets are a bit light and jangly compared to rolex. I have the same issue with Omega. Something about them just doesn’t feel solid, though I know they’re meticulously built. I know many will disagree with me.

- History - Pretty even.
Concur. Overall, I think GS is a better watch. Though, ease of servicing, I would give the nod to Tudor, with their ETA movement pieces.

GS has all that history, and movement, and dial and all yet I have never found myself having any interest in buying one. Tudor makes watches I WANT to buy. Guess that points to Grand Seiko's problem, they make a high end watch no one outside the WIS community gives two sh!ts about.

Ask any average non WIS person if they know Tudor
From where I live really nobody does. Seiko everybody knows.

As for Grand Seiko they are just beginning to venture outside Japan. They get there

They know Seiko as the Japanese watch they can buy on Amazon for $300. They have no clue what Grand Seiko is. I had never even heard of GS before joining this board.

You see it as a problem, whereas it’s actually a cultural difference in thinking.

Interesting question. I've flirted with both brands, but have yet to own one. I always seem to end up with another Rolex when it comes to putting up cash.

I definitely find the GS's much dressier and clearly the more refined and better finished brand. Tudor feels to me like Rolex of the 70's and 80's. Tool watches. I have one from each brand on my short list at the moment but for different reasons.

The Tudor Ranger has been on my list for quite some time. They are really cool watches. But I'm not sure if I love the watch or the price point. I don't own an Explorer at the moment and I feel like I'm wanting to like the Tudor. I might just pick up a used one, then if it doesn't work out I can sell it with minimal loss.

The GS SBGM221 (GMT) has been on my short list for a dressy/sports model for quite some time. I have to say, this is a mesmerizing piece. Others on the short list are the IWC Ingenieur and the JLC Master Ultra Thin small seconds.

Either way, I like these type of discussions. It's fun to compare and contrast.

Really just different brands.

Tudor hasn’t released anything yet that’s made me jump and say I have to have that - I always end up with another Rolex whether new or preowned over the Tudor. I did have a Tudor Chrono from the mid 90s that was pretty fantastic.

The Grand Seiko I’ve never owned. There are pieces I find appealing just haven’t been able to justify pulling the trigger - more of a sports watch guy.

People who compare Tudor and Grand Seiko is an idiot. Grand Seiko is comparable to Higher swiss brand. Grand seiko movement is better than rolex. How can u compare with tudor.

Also, many the triangle @12 at tudor black bay bezel has been misalligned. Not perfectly at center. I have tudor, also. Tudor is good model, worth it, but finishing is not good.

I own a BB 58 and a GS Peacock, the finish on the GS is miles ahead of the Tudor. There is no comparison with the case finish, polish on the hands , and especially the dial .
