Had an Explorer but couldn’t live without a date (and GMT) so I voted sub.

Explorer is very classy but I do prefer the sub since it can be dressed up or down, just over all more versatile.

An Explorer can easily be dressed up or down as well... one is not more versatile than the other. The Exp may actually have an edge on the Sub in terms of versatility with strap choices. I think divers on leather are just plain silly ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Both are great for every day. I don't think I've ever used the bezel on my Sub as a timer, but I do use the date daily, and the glidelock, so if I had to choose between the two I would go Sub. I think the dial on the Explorer is nicer though and wear it for nicer occasions.

I have an Exp but also want to add a Sub. I absolutely love my Exp, zero reason to add anything at all ever again... outside of I just want a Sub. I would vote Explorer 1. But you can’t go wrong with either (or both)

Neither. The Submariner 114060. Date detracts from the iconic aura of the Sub

It is personal preference - for me it would be the Explorer.

Sub is a bit top heavy and too much of an eye catcher; I'd go with the Exp!!!!

Well I have owned Subs on several occasions but currently have my Explorer (one man watch). I enjoy it thus far and was not sure of the no date or bezel but knowing that it's a Classic and definitely very subtle I do enjoy it.
My Sub was recognized on several occasions and stood out, So far my Explorer was called out at a family function and I was surprised when this person complimented it. I don't miss the date or bezel, both models are excellent so you have to go with what makes you Smile and Like........... |

For me it’s the Submariner as I find the rotating bezel useful for timing things.

I would join those who would vote Submariner over Submariner Date... a great case for either a Sub or Explorer, but I go with the Sub because I like the bezel on a daily as it spares some dings and dents that accrue on steel bezels.

go with the one that you really want! I just sold my OP39 to found my next watch and I feel like the Explorer is too similar. So my vote is SubC

EDC Watch: Explorer 1 vs SubC
I love the subC and own the date model in green, but between the subC and Explorer, it’s this for me. |

Both! I got Explorer a year before the Sub. I mean who am I kidding here? I thought one Rolex is enough but then 3 months after the Sub, I got myself a 16710 Pepsi.
You might wonder why I'm telling you this but my point is its hardly the case now that people would stop at one Rolex. Once you get your hands on one, sooner or later the next one will follow. That being said, if you must pick one for now then I would say go with the Explorer for two reasons. 1. The Sub is likely to get new upgraded movement this year 2. Explorer is more versatile. If there's ever such thing as one watch collection or an exit watch, this one would be it. |

I love both but if it was my daily, I would go with the Sub. You get the date complication, a timing bezel, and ceramic for the inevitable daily bumps that the watch is going to take. Add the glide lock and it’s an easy choice for me.

I wear my 214270 Mkii the most out of my Rolex collection. Super versatile, clean dial layout, & goes unnoticed by most. Perfect daily for my needs.

An explorer would probably be better for an EDC. the thinner case and metal bezel makes it better for day to day. But a ND Sub just calls my heart

I find the timing bezel to be very handy on a day to day basis.
