Always go for what you want - don’t settle. Bluesy was always my grail but I picked up a BLNR first because I thought it was more practical and I couldn’t quite stretch to the Bluesy. I loved my BLNR but often thought of the Bluesy until I got one two years later.

Again, get what you really want, even if it means you have to wait longer.

If you buy your grail first, for example, where do you go from there?
Like being helicoptered onto the summit of Everest, you are there (woo hoo!) but would it not be sweeter to have climbed the long and arduous path before?

I agree with this 110% It is all about the journey to the destination.

When to go for grail

This means I will have to search really hard, and it may take years to find. I may never find it. It may be more unicorn than grail! And if I find one, the timing may be wrong and I may have to let it get away because I can’t afford it. But this is my new approach to a grail!

Snap - ideally with papers - hope you are not born in 1976!?!

Let it linger as long as possible. Once you have it, it is no longer a grail.

Depends. My grail was (in retrospect at least) pretty simple. I had wanted a sub for about half my life. I didn't even know I wanted a 5 digit until I started looking at them. Finally sealed the deal for what I thought was a ton of money about a year ago (right before the mint subs with B+P started going through the roof. Looking back I got a great deal; probably 3-4K less than I would pay now and not sure I would pay that.)

But the thing is I think it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Not a minute of buyers remorse. It makes me happy to wear it.

I think it depends on why we want something.

No such thing. You’re chasing a never ending rush of dopamine.

I made the move to a 116619LB about six months ago. I guess you could say it was my grail. Totally worth it for me. Also turned 40, so kind of a fun milestone. The problem is the PM watches are in a totally different price bracket compared to SS. I’m almost desensitized to the massive price at this point since I’m starting to think about other PM’s.

One things for sure for me, going PM has made it so easy to forget about SS watches.

Let me throw out a big word, the grail is chimerical. Like the grail of legend it wasn't real in a physical sense (althou8gh some might argue otherwise) but in a more profound sense, hope. And if hope - whatever it is for each person - is what keeps us going, then an ideal watch as the symbol of what we hope for is something good. That ends my philosophical thought for 2019.

Yeah I kinda feel this too. Which makes me think the idea of the grail will never be as perfect as it was before you actually got it. Which means you can save a lot of money by keeping it just out of reach. Hmmm.
